Not only do you get to give your friends a really lazy gift, they can also only spend it at the retailer you choose for them. Picture: Facebook
It's pretty much the laziest and least useful gift card on the market.
Can't say we're missing out on much, really.
I already think gift cards are a worse crime against humanity than Zyklon B, so this is about the worst thing imaginable to me.
this must be why HMV is dieing because they aren't even relevant as company with the least useful gift cards anymore
Even though I would never buy one of these, I know they're going to sell like hot-cakes.
Buy one just to message Mark Zuckerberg telling him how amazing the cards are.
they do this to track what you buy in the real world
Gift cards literally seem like the most stupid and pointless thing to me. I know the idea is that you are basically giving someone money but you make the effort to dress it up as a present, but I hate being forced to spend the money in a specific place, I would much rather have equal value of the gift card in money.
The exception is that if you bought someone one for a place you know they would use it, i.e. a Steam gift card, or a shop like GAME.

or you can get prepaid cards. the only trick is that you have to use them asap because they fine the living hell out of them.
I've almost turned to a life of serial arson multiple times after finding that I only had 9.98 or something on a gift-card when the thing I wanted was 10.00, or that I only have gift cards to one bookstore when the book I want is as the other.
And don't even get me started about having two, partially spent, gift-cards to two different bookstores.
Just admit you don't know what your academic minded, airheaded relative wants for Christmas and give a motherfucker some cash.
If you're going to get someone a gift card, just get them a Visa Gift Card. You can shop both online and in stores with it and it doesn't limit where you buy from.
I saw these in Target next to a bunch of other cards that I would rather buy.
Fuck I would buy a Club Penguin card before I buy a Facebook card.

I like gift cards because I can often get them at a huge discount. I like free money.

Where?
Where?
Ebay. We often get like ~$500 gift cards to upscale restaurants for $100. Also some places give you free complimentary gift cards when certain criteria are met. (Buy this, get that; donate to this, get that; buy 5 of those, etc.)
Prepaid gift cards are awesome, they let me spend money on the internet without actually having a credit card.

A lot of people even sell iTunes gift cards for $100 worth of iTunes dosh for $85.
srry im postin in the wrong fuckin thread
I fucking hate gift cards to begin with, I remember getting multiple gift cards that came up to a value of around $200 for Christmas and the place told me I couldn't cash out any of the money at all. I was so pissed coming out of the store because I had to waste all that money on random shit from the store, I fucking hate wasting money on shit I don't need, especially when I could have just saved the money for later.

should move to a state where stores are legally required to turn it into cash if you want
That would be a good idea, after college I'm planning on moving out of state anyways. California is nice and all, but after being on the east coast for a bit, I think I prefer it over there.
i was recently given 50 bucks in giftcards for jamba juice.
ive never had jamba juice in my entire life.
I already think gift cards are a worse crime against humanity than Zyklon B, so this is about the worst thing imaginable to me.
i like getting the visa debit gift cards where you can spend it like a debit card wherever you want. i actually prefer them over someone buying me something; although if someone makes me something as a gift, that's priceless

for real though go there and buy somethin expensive. they got some good drinks.
Yeah, I usually just tell people to get me a Visa giftcard. Of course, my grandmother doesn't understand that so she gets me a giftcard to Kohl's (which I can at least use since I get stuff there fairly often.) My aunt however decided that the best idea was to get my a $25 gift card to... Subway! Because nothing says "'Tis the season!" like "Go get a couple of sandwiches."

Visa cards do have one big downside though IMO
You can't partially pay for orders with them because they act like debit cards
So if you have a $50 visa gift card and you are buying something that is $60 online, you are out of luck since I don't know a single website out there that lets you split between two forms of payment. Meanwhile having an amazon gift card (for example) means I can put $50 twoards a $60 purchase on amazon, and only pay $10 for it.
It makes it really complicated when you only have like.. $4.89 on the card left or something. You have to basically spend no more than $4 on whatever you get with it, and just throw away the 89 cents. I end up just making it so I use the remaining balance on a tip at a restuarant or something, since that's the only way I can reliably get rid of the exact amount left on the card (or split the bill between that amount and cash). Money that I would have otherwise spent on an actual gift.
I also kind of like gift cards in the sense that it encourages me to actually spend it on a gift. If I get a visa card or cash its great, but I usually just end up putting it towards groceries or something. I try to make a point though of spending cash/visa cards towards gifts only. I'd rather get a really "nice" giftcard than cash for that reason and the above reason. Nice as in, its for a retailer that's pretty fool proof and I actually like to shop at (such as amazon, or steam, or etc).
I know Steam lets you split between a credit card and your Steam Wallet.

Visa gift cards are the shit.
Don't know what to buy someone? Get em a 50-100 dollar gift card! Don't have a credit/debit card you want to use online? Go buy yourself a visa gift card!
But store specific gift cards suck some serious ass at times.
Like, when am I ever going to use a walmart or target gift card?
Even better is a two-dollar bill post-it pad.
I kind of like gift cards. If somebody bank-transfers me money I generally put it into savings and then feel bad for touching it; if somebody gives me cash it ends up going towards groceries or rent. In a slightly strange way, it's nice to be forced to spend it on something that's not rent or food
