This isn't a thread about how paintball is cooler or how airsoft is stupid get real guns. If you want to do that go make a thread about it don't post it here.
This thread was made since we lost our custom forum basically.
Airsoft is a game in which participants eliminate opponents by hitting each other with spherical non-metallic pellets fired from a compressed-air gun (or airsoft gun) powered by gas, compressed air, manual spring-load, or electrically powered gearbox.
Airsoft participants organize meetings at dedicated airsoft battlefields often adapted to provide walls, bunkers, trenches, buildings, towers, and other similar man-made field enhancements to offer realism analogous to real war environments.
Airsoft games vary greatly in style and composition depending on location, budget, and quantity of participants but often range from short-term skirmishes, organized scenarios, military simulations, or historical reenactments.
Combat sittuations on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the objectives set in each game. Participants typically use varying types of non-lethal weaponry designed as replicas of real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by modern military and police organizations.
AEG - AEG's are the most common airsoft guns used. They use rechargeable battery packs (Image). Batterys vary in voltage, MAH and shape due to the different guns. FPS is constant. AEG's also are now getting blowback features.
Gas - Gas guns are mostly shown in Pistols for blowpack but now AGM, WA, WE are now releasing there own M4 Gas rifles with blow back. Gas is a bit more expensive but you can get a propane adapter and just use propane (Green gas is propane with silicon). FPS starts to lower after every few shots since there isn't as much gas in the mag after the last shot.
Spring - Spring is known for Sniper rifles and shotguns and of course the shitty 5$ guns at walmart. Spring is great for a constant FPS of your gun and known for accuracy.

Power
Batterys
Batterys in the image in the AEG description show that they connect to the gun and are also rechargeable. Generally most airsoft guns come with a shitty battery and charger when you buy it but you can aways buy more batterys at an airsoft store or custombatterypacks.
Batterys are cheap to charge rather then buying propane or green gas. Below are most of the battery types. There are two missing such as the nunchuck and other which i can't recall. Mainly those are for fitting into RIS's or inside a buffer tube.

Gas
Gas is a more expensive way of playing. Green gas can cost around 8-10$ a bottle But in return most gas guns have blow back (Some do not how ever).
Spring
Spring has manual cocking for every shot. Generally bolt actions are spring. Almost all sniper rifles are springs with the acception to some of the SVD's out there and if you consider a M14 a DMR.
---
HopUp
Hop up in the easiest way possible adds spin to the bb therefore adding more range to it. Hop up is applyed by a little knob or slide depending on what gun you have. If you apply too much hop up your bb will spin up too high. If no hop up at all or not enough you won't get the max range out of your gun.

---
BB's
Airsoft guns fire 6mm bb's and 8mm bb's. Most fields only allow 6mm bb's. Now in both bb's there are different weights.
6mm weighs in from .12g all the way to .40's. .12g's are the ones you buy at walmart and are shitty quality like someone just clumped some plastic together. .20/25 is the most common for most AEG usersMainly anything above .25/28 and higher is meant for sniper rifles. Why not just use the highest weight for the best accuracy? Well not every gun has the same FPS which we will get into the next section.
There are also Bio bb's which some fields require. G&G sells 5k of them for 20$. Expensive compared to like the 5k for 10$ regular bb's but hey airsoft is fun. the extra 10$ is worth it. I believe if you play on a paintball/airsoft field it won't matter cause the field is already covered in paint. Couple of tiny rubber balls ain't going to make it worse.
Shitty bb's

Good bb's

TSD,Excel,G&G are also Good BB's.

FPS
FPS is different for every gun. Recently china companys have been really boosting FPS on there gun which is an issue when fields only allow 400FPS with .20's and the gun shoots 450. Luckly some fields do 400FPS with .25's and your alright.
Tokyo Marui for example has great internals and externals but the FPS is 320-280. Now don't let this fool you having a 450FPS gun doesnt mean shit if you can't hit anything past 80 feet.
Cyma's latest AK releases shoot 450FPS out of the box. Thats really hot for a china clone. Dboys also shoot 400FPS out of the box and it seems JG might join in the FPS boosting fun. You can aways upgrade or degrade your spring to change your FPS but it involves opening your gear box which i don't recommend for a beginner. You can however easily replace barrels, Hop up buckings ect without completely breaking your gun.
Most china guns have shitty hop up buckings and shitty barrels so i recommend getting them replaced if you really want to get some performance.

Goggles/Protection
I can't stress this enough NEVER PLAY AIRSOFT WITHOUT PROPER PROTECTION, If you ever see someone on the field without goggles shout out blindman and scream at him to put his damn goggles back on. The last thing we need is some idiot getting shot in the eye attempting to sue and other people that hear about it trying to get the sport banned. Some fields require full seal, Some only shooting glasses. It depends.
Airsoft goggles must be ANSI Z87.1 otherwise they could break during a game. Mesh is not acceptable either. It's dangerous also due to the fact bb's could shatter on the mesh and go into your eyes
For other protection there isn't much really. Airsoft won't really hurt you so long as guns arn't shooting 500+ FPS, But in my opinion wear a shirt or something.

Gear
Well most likely the part you will like is this part.
Airsoft is known for it's military and realism. If you go to ops or skirmishs everyone should have a 1:1 replica of the gun they are using, inless your doing a backyard skirmish if so shame on you.
Many people including me like to do real loadouts. I do a russian loadout with a team. Other people like to do there own style and just get what ever they like and will help them play better. Some people just get the standards, Some go full out. It raises the question if they can ever feel if they get hit underneath all of there gear but most people hear it or sometimes feel it and will call it. Remember when it doubt, Call your self out
The most popular peice of gear used are plate carriers. 99% of plate carriers have molle straps meaning you can easily make your vest the way you want it.

Magazines
Theres 4 types of magazines for airsoft
Low caps - Also called real caps. holds 30rds or what ever rounds the real steel version of your gun holds.
Midcaps - Hold 70-140 rounds each. No winding required. Have to use a speed loader on them.
Hicaps - Holds 200-1000 rounds. Requires manually winding it every 30-60 shots. Most popular mags out there since you can get a 500rd highcap for the price of 2-3 midcaps.
Box Mags/C-Mags - Holds 1000rd+ Made for Machine guns but generally some people attach them to there M4's/AK's even MP5's so they can spray all day. Automatically should rewind. Nice way to give out your position.

Iono paintballing in a forest sounds weird, so as paintballing in a urban area, more fitted for airsoft. Put the Airsoft GITV videos about scopes chargers batteries.

Good idea.
I've done a few games with my friends that can be called "backyard skirmishes" if you consider a decent chunk of land surrounded by a whole lot of nothing a "backyard".
Apparently because I and everyone there didn't have to pay 50$ to use that land that day we are all the scum of the earth within the airsoft community and to be shunned. Also my "gear" has no specific loadout. It's a mix and match of the stuff I'm most comfortable with. DOUBLE-SHUNNNNN!.
There was that one time we had a small game at one of my friend's houses, but he does it all the time and all of his neighbors are totally cool with it.
okay i'm a cheap ass what company makes good cheap guns?
inb4 mocking me

When i mean backyard skirmishes i mean tiny backyards or front of there house running around shooting each other when other people can walk by.
Having a random loadout isn't bad :<

JG or Echo1 (they are the same thing). Very well made and because they are chinese clones they are reasonably priced although not as cheap as other chinese clones.

Yeah but there was that backyard which is pretty small. I still think that's fine because all the neighbors know about it and are totally fine with it. Heck, they occasionally borrow a gun and join in.

Echo 1 or JG is makes great Tokyo Marui clones, they are both the same company but Echo 1 has better quality control and pre-tests all their guns.
I've got an Echo 1 G3 DSR and I play in the Florida everglades. :v
Only mods is a Systema gearbox shell and nozzle, that scope and rail, and 5 midcap mags.

How can you tell if you've shot someone? I mean, at least in paintball there is paint.
It stings like a bitch and generally you can see their reaction.
How can you tell if you've shot someone? I mean, at least in paintball there is paint.
Honor system, where I play it really isn't a sanctioned field, more like just a group of guys who built shacks in the everglades and cleared out trails. I guess if you cheat enough and act like a bitch about it then they'll kick you out, literally.
Regardless paintball and airsoft is different, if were were to compare them to vidya games, paintball would be something like css or some other red vs blue fragfest, and airsoft is more of a mil-sim like arma. Most paintball players have the same full-auto marker, and airsoft players each have their designated role and weapons to fit them, sniping, marksman, spotter, machinegunner, rifleman etc.
I haven't been airsofting in a while, there was just one a week ago but I missed it because I was on vacation. Hopefully there will be another one soon.
