The arrow quickly stopped burning because of the air running through this valley. It managed to put a flame one of the ropes and continued flying towards the soldiers.

The front support line snaps from the flame, and the front of the balloon snaps upwards, while the frame strikes the ground, breaking the landing gear, and forcing the rear of the frame up. The forces on the front of the balloon combined with the sudden upward impact on the frame cause most of the support lines to snap.
