• ABC news: Biden Says Tea Party Not a Racist Movement

ABC News [release]The tea party is not a racist group, says Vice President Joe Biden, though he believes that some of those involved in the movement have expressed racist views. "Very conservative, very different views on government and a whole lot of things," Biden said during an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "But it is not a racist organization." President Barack Obama doesn't think so, either, Biden said. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People approved a resolution last week calling on tea party activists and others to "repudiate the racist element and activities" within the political movement. Tea party organizers say racism does not have any place in their activities. Critics have pointed to signs and other actions at tea party gatherings as evidence of racist elements. In defending the National Tea Party Federation, spokesman David Webb said Sunday the coalition of local and regional tea party groups has expelled the Tea Party Express from its ranks for refusing to remove its spokesman, conservative talk radio host Mark Williams, after he posted a blog that satirized the NAACP and referred to its president, Benjamin Jealous, as "Tom's nephew and NAACP head colored person." The blog post was "clearly offensive," Webb said. "Self-policing is the right and the responsibility of any movement or organization," Webb said on "Face the Nation" on CBS. "I denounce any acts that I see many leaders do."[/release] http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=11191297 Vid link: http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/video/biden-tea-party-racist-organization-11189088 (seemed like there was a video sync problem)
*cough*
I thought Biden wasn't allowed to talk in public anymore.
Biden is more reasonable than most Facepunchers. Who'da thunk?
Many of the followers of the Tea Party express racist viewpoints, but such viewpoints are not endorsed by the Tea Party itself, so the organization itself isn't actually racist. It is however retarded, though.
He's reasonable enough to make a desperate attempt at gaining some independent and moderate Republican support. The tea party is just a better-concealed version of the Know Nothings.
The Tea Party as a organization isn't racist. The Tea Party as a group, however, is. The official org doesn't espouse racist views, but such a large percentage of the group's members do, that it's pretty much de facto racist.
Yeah, the organization is just rather dumb in their advocated policies, but the organization isn't racist by nature, it just seems to attract them.

A vocal minority is not the same as a majority. It's like saying most Muslims are terrorists but Islam doesn't support terrorism.

All the rallies I see a bunch of stupid/semi racist signs are around and all. But no, I couldn't really back it up. Change "such a large amount" to "it seems like such a large amount" then, i guess
Glaber, you don't need to include the source in the title. Unless it's Fox News.
Well, knowing me, if I didn't include the source, would you though it was Fox?
Glaber, you don't need to include the source in the title. Unless it's Fox News.
No, I think it's good practice to name your sources like that. That way, we know what we're getting into before we get into it.

Get it, cause tax payers are like the cigars corporate fat cats smoke while they're ruining small businesses and firing people, all while the tax payers pay into a system that supports the robber-baron types, so the tax payers are metaphorically getting burned/smoked and discarded by the rich.
how the hell do you confuse N with C?
The Tea Party makes a mockery of a legitimate cause. Or...wait..What is their cause, exactly? All I hear from them is that Socialized Healthcare was the watchword of Stalin and an awful lot of fearful bigotry.
how the hell do you confuse N with C?
He may be illiterate but goddamn it he's still an honest, hard working tax paying american and he deserves his voice!

Or Kenya. [editline]09:06PM[/editline] They only like taxes when it goes towards the defense budget, at least until someone has the balls to call them out on it.
The Tea Party makes a mockery of a legitimate cause.
No, not really. All they do is bitch about big government and taxes. When it comes to guns, they'll defend their rights to the death, but God forbid gay marriage is legalized. And bitching about taxes? I can understand it, but they actually want to LOWER taxes. That's ridiculous. The U.S. has very low tax rates compared to other advanced nations. I don't know what Bush was thinking when he decided to cut taxes while fighting two wars.

Public roads are goddamned socialism.
all emerged in opposition to Wall Street bailouts that occurred under Presidents Bush and Obama and what they perceive as the Obama Administration's efforts to expand the role of government.
They're high enough and many of the wrong Gov't programs are bloated beyond belief. With the proper restructuring, lower taxes are just as effective as higher taxes, without a poorer populace.
Most facepunchers don't know 2 shits about politics anyway.
So because everyone else has higher taxes, we should too? Nice bandwagon fallacy.
Does not apply here. They are complaining about taxes being too high but it has to be relative to something. Compared to the rest of the world they are low and compared to America itself historicaly they are very low. If they just want them to be lower for the sake of being lower then they are retarded.
Why would you want higher taxes? They're high enough and many of the wrong Gov't programs are bloated beyond belief. With the proper restructuring, lower taxes are just as effective as higher taxes, without a poorer populace.
No, if you lower taxes without making the system more efficient then you end up with a crappy government. The US is already having to pay off debts and several wars and lowering taxes will only make these issues worse. They are complaining about the end result instead of fixing the actual problem.
Why would you want higher taxes?
I never said I WANTED higher taxes. I said that the Tea Party members want to LOWER taxes, which is really absurd. Take a reading class please.
They're high enough and many of the wrong Gov't programs are bloated beyond belief. With the proper restructuring, lower taxes are just as effective as higher taxes, without a poorer populace.
Withdrawing from Iraq and Afghanistan, cutting the military budget, and never starting an unjustified war again would be a good start.
So because everyone else has higher taxes, we should too? Nice bandwagon fallacy.
that's not a fallacy and even if it was it's not fucking called bandwagon fallacy what are you doing
So because everyone else has higher taxes, we should too? Nice bandwagon fallacy.
uh, what?
that's not a fallacy and even if it was it's not fucking called bandwagon fallacy what are you doing
MadLibs maybe?
