So yeah, I'm actually learning the Arabic language. Learning to write and read right now, which kinda requires that I know the language. I won't lie, I'm making this topic to help me learn Arabic through exposure, but I think there has to be some Arabic speakers hiding around here.
And yeah, it's totally google translator in the thread title. Gimme a break?
Oh, kind need an arabic language OP.

Neither do I. I'm at that point where I read something and I just pronounce it with that default sound you make when there aren't any vowels.

Neat - I have a somewhat recent interest in the language. Are there any really basic, easy to learn materials I can get to? I don't want to annoy my professor trying to learn.

(Blame your post in Let's Learn to Handwrite Again! for this)

If you want to learn to write, read, speak, and understand, I'd recommend learning your basic letter shapes and drawing them out. Then learn its forms. Focus on one grapheme at a time, until you've gotten all four (sometimes only two) forms down.
Once you're comfortable reading and writing, it's at this point that you should learn the language. You can't learn to read arabic and understand it without knowing the language, as the writing, being an abjad, only encodes consonantal information. You need to know the context to understand what you're reading.
This video helped me out a good deal.

...how?
...how?
The Malaysian language initially started with Malaysian word but Arabic letters, this is due to the influence from Arabian traders. This soon changed when the west came and colonized the country. Today the language can be written in either alphabet or Arabic, most states uses alphabet but there are still Islamic states that keeps the Arabic.
Also, in schools the local language is taught in alphabet but during the exams you can write in Arabic letters.
well that's weird
I can predict that there's gonna be an awful lot of "Allahu Akbar" in this thread.
well that's weird
Oh yeah, Malay in arabic letters is also known as 'Jawi' and it has a couple letters than actual Arabic.
Its pretty much a dieing culture in the urban area. Only about 1 out of 65 can read and write Jawi.

This is probably horrible, but I'm using a dictonary and thesaurus and then using a virtual keyboard to painstakingly type this stuff out. Gotta be a better way.

بصراحة حتى أنا لا أرى نفع في تعلم العربية، مضيعة للوقت لأنها معقدة.
You can buy one of these keyboards with arabic letters slapped onto the keys.

I'll admit -- I can't comprehend it yet. I can read and write just fine, though. Literally took a couple of days of writing and reading trial and error. It's now permanently ingrained into my mind.
What I do is get the letters and look for words by that. I'm now in the process of learning how the language works.

Meant to say English too much common. Oh well. Was my word order bad? As I understand, word order isn't that important, it just makes you sound strange if you don't use the prevailing one for that statement.
I'm now in the process of learning how the language works.
Well good luck with that because Arabic is one of the most complex languages out there.
Well good luck with that because Arabic is one of the most complex languages out there.
I don't really think that atm. Probably less complex than English and its one-off rules. English has going for it the fact that it doesn't conjugate nearly as much as other language, and it barely declines.
Also why the fuck do you have that penguin icon, that's what you're supposed to have when someone sends you that link on steam :v:

Oh believe me. English is a piece of cake compared to Arabic. There are a lot of things that /I/ can't even understand, mainly because the Arabic taught to people is the "formal" Arabic, people never speak that, they always use different dialects.
