Second child of Philadelphia couple dies from "Faith-healing"
A Philadelphia couple — serving 10 years' probation for the 2009 death of their toddler after they turned to prayer instead of a doctor — has violated their probation now that another of their children has died.
Herbert and Catherine Schaible belong to a fundamentalist Christian church that believes in faith-healing.
They should have gotten prison time for the first offence, not probation.

Sorry if late, couldn't see it posted anywhere.
Fuck these guys. This is murder and they should be punished as such.
Faith healing nutjobs.
Why was the child not taken away after the first death?
The article seems so cold when it states that the death of their child is "violation of probation". You usually think of probation violation as minor things, not the death of people.
But seriously, 10 years probation and this allowed them to do it again? Absolutely disgusting.
They were convicted of "involuntary manslaughter" for the last child. They BETTER be convicted of MURDER this time around. There is absolutely no excuse.
Authorities have yet to file criminal charges in the death of the 8-month-old boy last week, after he suffered with diarrhea and breathing problems for days. But charges could be filed once authorities pinpoint how the baby died.
The couple is on probation after a jury convicted them of involuntary manslaughter in 2010 in the death of their 2-year-old son, Kent, from pneumonia.
Hmm it looks like the kids died from disease. Maybe they had ate some stale jesus cookies or were exposed to tainted holy water.
My step mom is a nurse and she's had to let people choose medicine or faith. As a nurse you can't just be like "okay sorry we know this is your son but we are going to inject drugs into him without your consent"

They weren't given any medical attention at all. It is the parent's responsibility to give them such, and they didn't. It may not be murder, but more so, indirect murder caused by the parent's actions.
This situation reminds me of a joke I heard about people who refuse help because of religion.
A fisherman goes out to sea and his boat begins to sink after catastrophic damage. Stuck on a piece of floating driftwood for days, he begins to pray to God for a miracle. Within the next hour, a boat stops by the floating piece of drift wood and the men onboard demand the fisherman to board their boat so that he could be ferried to safety. The man refuses, stating his religious belief. The boat crew, baffled, leave the area anyway. The man again begins praying. Within the next few hours, another boat stops by the man.
"Come with us!" The boat crew says. No, says the man. Steadfast in his beliefs, he hangs onto the flotsam with fleeting strength. But soon, he sinks underneath the surface and drowns. When he approaches St. Peter at the gates of Heaven, the fisherman questions Peter. "I prayed to God for rescue but he has forsaken me, why?"
Peter looks at him and says, "He sent you two boats, fuckstick."

At least here in Denmark I think we have a "Well fuck you, he's 3 and he's gonna die"-law. Or maybe we just lack nutjobs.

There are certain situations like. If there was a horrible car crash and first responders need to put in a chest tube or do a tracheotomy real quick, but most of the times in a hospital setting they will make your next of kin, or you sign a paper giving them consent and all that.

Yeah, I was wondering why the charges were so light. Child neglect seems to be treated differently in the justice system vs murder because the victim's death was indirectly caused by the parents. Where as murder...you stab the kid or drown them or something.
Poor kid. Diarrhea and breathing problems bad enough to kill him had to be terribly painful.
Put these fuckers in jail until their reproductive system dries out, as they obviously can't be trusted with a living being.

What the hell is this.
When a child's life is threatened in France, hospitals save him and parents got nothing to say. If they do, they'll be convicted that is all.

Because in America, if you don't sign 'your life away' as they call it then they are liable. Doctors are scared of being sued, it is like Russia with insurance fraud. If somebody has one little thing done wrong to them it's SUE SUE SUE. So doctors don't want to get sued out of their job, would you?

This all ties into 'amurcian freedoms' I'm sure if we passed a law saying "sick children have to be treated" the repubs will call it communist/socialist or some stupid bullshit and say it impedes on our rights and the gubmint forcin us hard working 'muricans to spend their hard earned money!
Wait, so, after their child died when faith healing did absolutely nothing, this couple thought "Hmm, that must have been a fluke or punishment for our sins, maybe faith healing will work this time!" when their second child got sick and inevitably died?
Stubborn dumbasses.
Follow the god that failed
Who's to bet they'll blame sin/atheism/Muslims/homosexuals for the failure of their prayers?
Fucking lock the retards up please...

Or they just put him in a freezer.
(If you remember this.)

They got prosecuted for murder.

Isn't it called manslaughter by neglect or something
Reminds me of this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/sep/28/homeopathy-baby-death-couple-jailed
Now that both of their children are dead, when are we going to have a national discussion on the avoidable deaths of the nations children? We have to stop all faith healing and make it illegal and morally objectionable, before more of our lambs are lead to the slaughter by the hands of radicals!
the sad thing is, this isnt the first, or won't be the last child to die from faith healing, the worst are the ones who are terminally ill and could easily have been saved.
i cannot even begin to understand what they are thinking, but come on, faith healing, while having been around for thousands of years, even people in the 1800s went to doctors for help, and took medicines, theres no reason why doctors and the bible can't mix, its just people's fear of medicines that use the bible as a justification
the real loosers in these cases are the children who die, and no child in america should be allowed to die due to lack of medical care

This almost made me believe the article was written in lyrical form.
Prosecutors on Monday sought to have the couple jailed, but Lerner permitted them to remain free because their seven other children had been placed in foster care.
There are so many things wrong with this
Am I reading this right: they had 7 other kids excluding these two mentioned who were put in foster care?
People like this shouldn't be allowed to have children.
I don't like to bash religions because it makes me feel like a youtube comment troll, but holy shit. Religious texts can be interpreted in some really retarded ways.
