[release]Belgium rolls out a royal red carpet Saturday for Tintin, its most celebrated son, when Steven Spielberg premieres his blockbuster movie in the comic book hero’s home capital. Posters of the intrepid boy reporter with the quiff and funny pants are plastered across town, and a parade of vintage cars, as portrayed by author Herge in albums set in the 40s, organised to coincide with the premiere.
Spielberg flies in for the first public screening of “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn”, an Avatar-style movie that will bring the boy hero and his trusty sidekick Snowy to cinemas elsewhere from October 26. Co-produced by “Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson, Spielberg’s “Tintin”, in the director’s own words, is billed as a kind of “Indiana Jones for kids”.
Loosely based on several of the 24 Tintin comics, the story kicks off in a well-known Brussels antiques market, and city authorities are looking to a tourist bonanza for “the most celebrated of Belgians” — as say the posters. Tintin and Spielberg, whose project dates back 30 years, are headlining papers and TV broadcasts in anticipation of the movie, which gets a second red-carpet premiere in Paris later on Saturday.
“There’s a lot of excitement over the movie,” said Dominique Maricq, an oldtimer at Herge Studios. “We’re curious to see how Hollywood portrays him.”
Welcoming Spielberg’s decision to unveil the 3-D animation in Belgium, Maricq said that from the start Belgian specialists had been “impressed by Spielberg and Jackson’s determination to respect the spirit of Tintin’s world, to not turn him into an American super-hero.”
Created in 1929 by Herge, whose real name is Georges Remi and who was then in his early 20s, Tintin and his colourful companions have achieved cult status for millions worldwide.
Shot using motion capture technology, the movie uses real-life actors — Jamie Bell of “Billy Elliot” fame as the fresh-faced hero, Daniel Craig as the villain Red Rackham — to breathe life into its characters.[/release]

This is awful.
Edit: Way to rape Tintin.
Edit2: I would watch it if it was actual animations and not this 3d bollocks. Those characters look horrifying.

I believe that was Crystal Skull...
The characters do have a bit of uncanny valley going, but the movie looks pretty cool judging from the trailers.
I'm glad to see they put a lot of work into this one.

We have all seen a grand total of five minutes of footage, if that.
This makes me happy.

Indiana jones is indiana jones for kids.
It's weird, they are releasing a movie called tintin with a character called tintin but here we call the character Kuifje.

I guess that's what they're going to call him on the Dutch dub, then!
When i first saw a trailer i thought it was real, not CGI.
My uncle got VVIP tickets and he's meeting Spielberg himself, too bad I couldn't go with him though :( .

Wow that sucks hard. Looks like a great film though.
I love how this looks, it looks amazing
It looks awesome, except for the fact that they somehow managed to make Tintin look like a prepubescent boy.

Only a little bit.

28 positive reviews, 5 mixed and 1 negative so far.
It's odd because Tin Tin is right next to characters with more cartoony features, making him look more realistic.
The only thing I can complain about is that they slapped three story's into one. They even went back to find voices similar as in The Adventures of Tintin way back (at least the Dutch version). The style just takes some getting used to.
Yeah, they shoulda just kept it as a "Secrets of the Unicorn"/"Red Rackham's Treasure" mashup (Those were the two that comprised the treasure arc, right?)
I guess that's what they're going to call him on the Dutch dub, then!
No the movie itself is called Tintin. I've seen the trailer in the cinema.

Forget the fridge, Shia Labeouf in that movie was pretty much Wesley Crusher.

Crap, was supposed to reply to the guy above :v:
The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham's Treasure Is included in this film, dunno about the treasure arc.
Just the unofficial title for The Secret of the Unicorn and Red's Treasure, iirc, being as they follow on from one another and concern the same thing with Haddock's ancestor.
an Avatar-style movie
You mean 3d? Or cgi? or what?
Those characters look horrifying
No they don't, they look kind of cartoony.
The character art style reminds me more of TF2 than anything, really. You know, how they look like they've been shaped out of putty.
Well, it's good. Rackham's arc was my favourite.
Huh, what a coincidence. I live there.
I just hope they won't fuck up and make tintin a complete wuss, he was more then able to dish out a few punches in the comics.
