• Facepunch Airsoft IRC channel!

Seeing as people are using tinychat like silly sausages, I made an IRC channel for us, it's #fpairsoft on gamesurge. So what's IRC then? IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, it's basically the second form of chatrooms (after BBS systems) and is still very much popular today. There's plenty of information on the wikipedia page here. That sounds nerdy, why should I use it? It's not cool for a kid like me! Simply put, you can join IRC servers and channels on anything, from PCs running Windows/Linux/Unix/BSD, macs, various phone OS's (Symbian, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, iOS) It's much more convenient than a proprietary service like flashchat, especially if you're in multiple channels/servers or connect from many locations. If that still sounds nerdy, just think - you're using the internet right now, so by default you're a nerd. Anyway, it's hip to be square! OK then, you've swayed me, how do I chat? Firstly, you're going to need an IRC client, such as- mIRC (free with nag screen) or Bersirc(Free and Open source!) for Windows colloquy for Mac OS XChat for Linux (or you could just apt-get irssi which is an awesome terminal based client) For phones and stuff, just google <phone OS> IRC client, but a few that I have tried on various devices are wmIRC for Windows Mobile, mIRGGI for Symbian and colloquy mobile for iOS. Once you've acquired the software you'll need to set up the connection to the server we're using, which is gamesurge (irc.gamesurge.net), software such as mIRC will have a list of servers pop up when you start it up, so you can select manually. Other clients may not have this and will start you on a blank server window. To connect, type "/server irc.gamesurge.net" or "/connect irc.gamesurge.net" (client dependant commands) You should see a connection attempt and then a welcome message from the server, so now you're connected. To join the channel type "/join #fpairsoft", then you can start talking! Alternatively, you could click this link - irc://irc.gamesurge.net/fpairsoft or try a web based option like www.mibbit.com To change your nickname, type "/nick whateveryouwant" Spaces aren't allowed. I'm here and nobody is talking, why is that? That's because people are idling - that means that they're logged on, but not there - I personally leave my IRC client running 24/7 so I can receive messages if needed, but I have things to do like work and sleep. Please DON'T come into the channel, ask a question and get your panties in a twist when you don't get an instant reply. So that's a quick guide to IRC, feel free to come along. If it doesn't work out I'll just kill the channel :)
whoopee get in here, we are having a ball
Updated thread with connection guide!
I have an Iphone app, but I need to fill out Title Channel Key Hostname What do I put for those? Once I get that figured out, I can chat more often with you guys.
Ignore Title Channel is FPAirsoft or #FPAirsoft. Depends on your client what it wants to take. Ignore Key Hostname is Irc.Gamesurge.net Probably.
Nope.
What client are you using?
An iPhone app.
An iPhone app.
The name of the app would help.
Irc999.
Just get Colloquy Mobile.
How much is it?
I dunno. Get one on your PC, too.
I'm on it, I'll just idle in the backround for now.
Ok.
How much is it?
Jesus christ, look at the damn app store and check. Stop trying to bump your post count with worthless posts. Content > Postcount.
But, I don't care about posts. I'd make a different account just to get a new name, but I'm lazy. Assuming gets you boxes.
