• Is Being "Normal" A Good Thing?

People strive to be normal, and yet realise that being "ordinary" is dull. But isn't it ordinary to be normal? I've found that people have become closed off in their own ways and aren't willing to dig further into personalities. Someone can think of a person who dresses a certain way and likes a type of music or hangs out with a group of people to be stereotypical. It's all fairly obvious, but what do you think? Why do people have a preference for what a human being should be..
If everyone was normal we would never progress, lots of our races smartest people are abnormal. I'm not saying people should act differently to be hip, but I don't think people should be bound to "normality".
I'd like for someone to define "Normal". Because it's all defined in every person. Nobody has the same view on what "Normal" is.

I strive not to be normal. Normal is a boring monotone, I strive to be a rainbow of fucking everything awesome. I don't understand people who try to fit in by acting like everyone else, it just makes them look bland and uninteresting to me. [editline]27th September 2011[/editline] On the subject of normal, what about perfect? can anything or anyone really be "perfect"?
On the subject of normal, what about perfect? can anything or anyone really be "perfect"?
Well there is smugness and arrogance.
Fuck being normal, I tried it once and all it got me was a stupid droll life before I decided to break out of it.
To be normal is to be bland and imperfect. There are times when it's stressful to be different, but my parents taught me to be different, and if I wasn't different, I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't have my girlfriend, I wouldn't have my good grades, and I wouldn't have played some awesome games.
I think people need to conform when interacting with other people otherwise it can make things difficult when it comes to communication but I think everyone should be perfectly allowed to be who they are.
if I wasn't different, I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't have my girlfriend, I wouldn't have my good grades, and I wouldn't have played some awesome games.
Having a girlfriend, good grades and playing games fits the category for abnormal?
Abnormal / to behave in a non social way ?
Abnormal is best.
Abnormal / to behave in a non social way ?
Well there's being civil, and there's being interesting. I'm saying people be like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
Having a girlfriend, good grades and playing games fits the category for abnormal?
Well, if I was normal (As defined in my school, also known as a dumbass jock or a self-centered overachiever), I wouldn't have those things.
I'm cynical as fuck with people. I look at somebody my age and listen to them for 2 minutes an immediately I can judge if I like them or not. Sadly I never seem to like anyone I meet. Hopefully people will grow up.

I personally would never want to be considered as "normal" because in my head this "normality" is kind of the same thing as being a mass-minded clone. I really love it when people have some kind of personality, like some traits that really stand out to make them unique.
Well, if I was normal (As defined in my school, also known as a dumbass jock or a self-centered overachiever), I wouldn't have those things.
I'm not quite sure I understand you. You say you are abnormal because you defy someone else's definition of being normal. Try and be specific because over here we don't have dumbass jocks.
Because i have ginger hair, some people see me as not '"normal" just cause i don't have a common hair colour :C
Normality is a state of mind, what passes as normal varies from person to person.
I don't think anyone is normal. "Normal" is just what your culture defines as appropriate behaviour. As such, it differs from country to country, from village to village, sometimes even from community to community. It's your decision how you handle this cultural pressure and how you might conform/oppose it. That's what makes out our personalities.
Because i have ginger hair, some people see me as not '"normal" just cause i don't have a common hair colour :C
Don't let it bother you, it's a flaw in culture that makes people worse.

I might not get straight A's, but I do well enough to feel proud of myself, and I feel like one of the few people who go to school to work and learn, not socialize and goof off. I guess high school has really twisted my definitions of normal/abnormal. :v:
There is no such thing as normal. We all strive to be what is described as "normal" but no two people are ever exactly the same. We're defined by our pasts, making everyone individual.
Most people who think they are not normal are still normal in a sense
I feel like one of the few people who go to school to work and learn, not socialize and goof off. School is one of the easiest places to gain insight for personalities. However, it's very difficult to break open people's true nature. That's the result of maturing.
feel proud of myself,
Thats all that really matters. One flew over the cuckoos nest Jesus some of them are right nutters I mean hell it was bad for Murphy n all but christ abnormal / mentally retarded I duno.
I'd like for someone to define "Normal".
Impossible. Which also makes this debate impossible.
I don't know what I am. What I know is that I'm a human being and my life has value.
You seem like quite a narcissist.
It's hard to appreciate people when they make fartjokes and act generally immature for their age.
Impossible. Which also makes this debate impossible.
I think a more appropriate title for this thread would've been something like "is being considered normal by the standards of the modern society something to strive for" or something to that extent.
