Samurai Jack is back and has received a TV-MA rating for its dark tone and violent animation. The new season will premiere later this fall as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block. The first four seasons premiered between 2001-2004 and during that time the show earned four Emmy Awards. The new season is currently in production in Los Angeles.

Hell, yes. My inner child finally gets to see the conclusion to one of the most critically acclaimed cartoons and to watch it in possibly the best way.
WHAT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
now to just watch the show just before they add this to amazon/netflix so I can then watch this
Good.
Goooooooooooooooooood.
Anyone know if Adult Swim will be putting it online? Don't have that channel and i'm definitely gonna want to watch this.
Can't wait to see Jack slice something other than robots.
Adult Swim just understands this generation so well tbh
Stop hiding / trying to hide things behind a lesser rating and let it be what it strives to be
I hope it's a situation where the MA rating let's them have freedom rather than feeling like they have to use 'mature content' since they've got an MA rating.
It looks like it's going to be good though, so probably nothing to worry about.

adult swim is and has been best programming block on tv
i still think adult swim should get its own channel instead of piggy backing on cartoon network
finally an animated show for adults that isn't a comedy
why don't these exist outside of japan?

come to think of it, jack's japanese too :v:
adult swim is and has been best programming block on tv
it kinda irritates me when people say adult swim is full of stoner humor.
they should honestly look deeper than the surface of the shows they make, they have a surprising amount of depth to the dumb jokes.
this aint no ~~"RESPEKT DA ARTZY SHIT" CRITIC~~ comment either, it is genuinely there.

It's nice that it has the freedom to show its violent side more openly without going "it's fine they're just robots", but it's not like Samurai Jack was all gritty all the time or anything, if the new thing is humourless it'd be missing the spirit of half of the series.

Because at some point everybody decided that animation is automatically for babies, so if you tried to make something for adults nobody would give it a chance. Even in Japan anime has kind of backed itself into a corner where most of it panders to an extremely small group of otaku who will pay crazy prices to compensate for their small numbers to survive.
It's getting better recently as evidenced by stuff like this being made, but somebody is going to have to bang their head against the brick wall that says animation is only for kids, and nobody wants to be the guy who loses money trying to change public perception.

Feels really hypocritical to me when people will happily treat something like Avatar, which the appeal is being a CG animation showcase, completely seriously as long as there are a few human actors in it. There are so many movies that are made of mostly CG and yet there's a double standard for anything fully animaetd.
Somebody has to go out and make a fully animated movie aimed at adults already, just give it a gritty realistic art style or something so people will take it seriously.

There's a small but long-running history of adult-oriented animated films. There's Heavy Metal, obviously, Beowulf, which was animated in 3d with mocap performances, Persepolis, and Waltz with Bashir, and I haven't seen it yet but there's also Anomalisa, which released pretty recently. Those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Don't forget a lot of Ralph Bakshi's works, like Fritz the Cat, Coonskin, and Heavy Traffic. If those weren't adult-oriented, nothing was. They were a real trip, too.

I wonder what the scotsmans insults would have been like with an MA rating
Can't wait to see Jack slice something other than robots.
To be fair, they did let him slice up alien monsters, and kill all but one of an entire bounty hunting team in what amounts to a second's worth of movement by the time a water droplet could hit the ground

There are a lot of shows that are though simply because they are dirt cheap. Aqua teen hunger force for example was so cheap they forgot to renew it, the show had a finale then the network remembered that they even were buying episodes and renewed the show, it's all done in flash by like 2 guys
Then there's all their weird live action shows that look like a guy and a go pro
But there are plenty of shows with thought put into them too
hopefully due to actual violence/tone, and not just intermittent 'bad' language that doesn't need to be there

There's a lot of shit that adult swim shows which has crazy amounts of depth to. This House Has People in It is a great example.

I disagree, adult swim wouldn't be the same if it was on 24/7. I still remember when I decided to stay up late on cartoon network and I had my mind blown by all the weird cool and trippy shit for the first time.

that plus it lets them work on it in the day and make it better
if it was 24/7 it wouldn't feel exclusive at all
It wasn't covered in the source and I didn't watch the video, so I will catch up people who haven't been following the news on this. The final season consists of 10 episodes and will have Jack looking for his sword, which has become lost. He has the armor, a motorcycle and a gun now though.

Uhh...
Does he have some kind of other sword at least?

I always like these sort of twists. Gives the character a chance to try new styles, weapons, and general demeanor. Biker-Bandito Jack sounds nice.
I dunno, part of me could kinda see a brief backstory where Jack sort of lost his way after being trapped in Aku's future for so long, and this is after he's finally gotten his shit back together.
I like the mature approach but I don't know how they're gonna make Jack turn on his honor and respect for life in this. What made him go nuclear?
Also if he's going to be killing actual people I want to know what happened to the robots since those were the easiest thing for Aku society to produce.
i still think adult swim should get its own channel instead of piggy backing on cartoon network
They show enough reruns already thanks, we don't need 14 more hours of them.

I would imagine that constantly having your main objective denied time after time would drive anyone a bit nutty after awhile.

Something to that effect.
