Ukraine to get no gas in June, refuses to pay money
Ukraine will not pay in advance for Russian gas at Gazprom's new, higher price, the Ukrainian Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan has said.
Russia made the demand after saying Ukraine had failed to pay the bill for its April natural gas deliveries.
The bill was calculated using the new rate of $485.50 (£286.50; 350 euros) per thousand cubic metres of gas.
Prior to April, the Russian state-owned energy firm charged $268.50 for a thousand cubic metres.
"We cannot pay in advance at the price [of] about $480 per thousand cubic metres," the Interfax-Ukraine news agency quoted Mr Prodan as saying.
Russia's energy ministry said Ukraine had missed a deadline to pay debts worth $3.5bn and that all gas sent from June will have to be paid in advance.
The Ukrainian government has another supply of gas...?

Ukraine has its own gas but not nearly enough. I hope they have a plan B
These guys can't catch a break can they? Every article seems to hint at the entire country just circling the drain.

Didn't Iran offer to supply gas? I imagine they'd need to set up infrastructure for it but I seem to remember an article about that
Last I checked if they cut off the gas, then Crimea loses the gas, so the Russians would be cutting off their "own" state.

[del]To be entirely fair, Russia is, for once, in the right in this case. Ukraine owe them 3.500.000.000 USD in gas-bills alone, and they're not gonna roll with that shit any more now they're no longer butt-buddies. It's super shitty, but it's fair.[/del]
Disregard that, gas was payment for naval base in crimea, not goodwill. Russian occupation of Crimea is the illegallest shit ever, so their refusal to pay with gas because they took their shit with force is bullshit.
Plan B is going to be take gas ear-marked for Europe. It's what they did last time and it fucked up Europe for a good few weeks.
They didn't pay for the gas(and are already in debt), and they are surprised to not get any?
The internet is turning into the most Russophobic place
We should draw a military hard line with Russia. We should actually mention nukes, that will immediately stop their shit.

I'm not saying this.
I'm saying, bring nuclear treaties back to the table. Russia will immediately understand we're not fucking around and they'll back off.
I'm honestly surprised Russia hasn't done the same against us already.

The problem is at this point nukes are pretty much empty threats. When both sides can destroy the world a thousand times over threatening to use nukes is simply ineffective. I'm sure Russia would love the chance to resume nuclear testing or stockpiling too.
Who will take up the mantle of Ukraine's local gas monopolist?

Ukraine wasn't not paying Russia for gas, Russia was paying Ukraine with gas for lease of the military port of Sevastopol. Then Russia decided to say fuck it to all international law and reason and just straight-up do a land-grab.

But the U.S. is already accusing Russia is breaking nuclear missile treaties.

Nope. Subsidizing it. And they still didn't pay full when it was subsidized.

The deal was Russia could use the naval base if they gave Ukraine gas at half price.
If Ukraine stop paying for gas entirely then how long do you expect them to get free supply for?
Russia taking Crimea was a dick move but you can't expect them to give away free gas indefinitely.

I love how you make users of the term seem irrational and stupid by presenting an exaggerated and fallacious description of it.

Russia did nuclear tests a few weeks ago and also did a nuclear drill in moscow.

It would probably take a long time to set that up. I'm pretty sure there's not enough capacity at this point.

Iran has a lot of gas they are willing to sell but they have no pipelines, so it'll have to be transported by ship and tanks over land, which is a slow process.
So a country with no money who's faulted on loans can't get goods?
SHOCKING

I thought they offered it to the EU, which Ukraine isn't part of.
