Some of us at Flickr saw that comic and thought, “… hey, we can do that!” Like the comic suggests, given a photo with geo data, it’s pretty straightforward to lookup whether that photo was taken in a US national park, and we already have the technology to answer the bird question (which took us less than 5 years to build, though it’s definitely a hard problem, and we’ve still got room for improvement (which we’re working on)). So, all we had to do was whip up this spiffy website and put those technologies behind it! We think it’s a great way to show off some of the cool work we’re doing here at Flickr. We hope you think it’s fun!
Try it out yourself: http://parkorbird.flickr.com/ Source: http://petapixel.com/2014/10/21/flickr-responds-webcomic-challence-site-tells-picture-bird/
but can it detect birds with arms?
only one way to find out! [editline]21st October 2014[/editline] It can tell it is a bird about half of the time when you give it pictures of birds with arms. [t]http://i.imgur.com/fsQJSov.png[/t]

Well some cats are apparently more bird-like than other cats I suppose.
I read the link as "parkour bird" and got really excited.
Birds can fly. What use would parkour be? Style of course.

Image processing and interpretation is a doctorate research level problem. It's amazing that they were able to just toss this together!
