10 Year Old Boy Who Killed His Mother Over Argument About Chores Finally Admits It After Three Years
An Ohio boy admitted he fatally shot his mother in the head with a rifle when he was 10 after what a relative described as an argument over chores.
The boy, now 13, entered the equivalent of a guilty plea Monday in juvenile court.
In January 2011, the boy went to a neighbor's house, called 911 and told the dispatcher he had shot his mother at their home in rural Holmes County, about 70 miles northeast of Columbus. "I shot my mom. I shot her with a gun," he said.
At the time, his uncle said the boy and his mother had argued over carrying firewood.
Defense attorney Andy Hyde said the boy lived in an emotionally abusive environment, was provoked by his mother's screaming and "just snapped."
The boy "is one of those that I just feel sorry for," Hyde said. "He had a lot dumped on him at a young age and responded inappropriately, but the spur-of-the-moment decision now will affect the rest of his life."

I don't feel this is stupid. The boy obviously had some problems and the problems were intensified by his mother. He just snapped. The boy needs help.

Quoting this verbatim is either surprisingly considerate of Fox News, or a way to turn attention away from the fact that a 10 year old had access to a fucking rifle.

Honestly, if you care more about the fact that a child had access to a gun over the fact that he was driven to use it, on his own mother. Then sir, I think quite honestly. You need to reevaluate your views on life and take a step back.

I think it's far more important we talk about his mental health than the fact he had a gun
Can we talk about mental health now? or is this still a "OH MY FUCK GUNS" situation
Man, and I thought I hated doing the dishes.

Americans are not more prone to mental health issues than other western countries.
Nor are they any more 'failed' by the mental health care system.

No amount of gun laws will change the fact that a child whom should've loved his mother more than anything else, found that at age ten his only option was to murder his mother with a firearm. Guns are loud, messy, and terrifying. Imagine that you're a child and you have access to one, now imagine that you've been abused, treated so badly, that you actually use it.
At that point, when you've been broken by life to the point of wanting to murder the person that brought your life into existence and has kept you alive, a gun isn't important. She would've been attacked by whatever means the child needed to defend or "free" himself.

children are driven by impulse. if he hadn't had access to the rifle it wouldn't have happened and you can't deny that by any fox news talking point

this is why i hate anti gun nutters.....
Here we have a situation= someone with obvious mental health problems- combined with the fact its a child means theres an almost nil chance of it being treated- and the only thing ppl are on about is the fact he used a gun.
The kid will probably end up killing himself in the future from too much guilt.
How sad, anger can really fuck you over sometimes.
Does anyone have any evidence that the mom was abusive, or is that just something the people protecting the kid say and everyone just accepts it as truth?

This sort of thought pops up a lot in conversations like this....it's rarely addressed head on in the situations in which it leads to a debate.
Accepting the truth is an important step to recovery. Hopefully the judicial system can fulfill it's sidegoal of rehabilitation.
