While Drug Enforcement Administration agents in California are cracking down on the popular new drug known as “wax,” people in Colorado are rushing to embrace it.
Wax, the ultimate distillation of marijuana, is so potent that it is said a single hit will keep a person high for more than a day.
“There is no weed out there that possesses the punching power that the wax does,” an undercover DEA informant who asked to remain anonymous told ABC News’ “Nightline.” “And it’s like smoking 20 joints of the best grade of weed that you have into one hit of the wax.”
Making the drug is risky. Butane, a substance so flammable that any spark can set off an explosion, is used to strip out the THC, the chemical in marijuana that gets a person high. But law enforcement says the process of making wax is not the only thing dangerous about it.
“We have seen people have an onset of psychosis and even brain damage from that exposure to that high concentration of THC,” said Gary Hill, assistant special agent in charge at the DEA's San Diego office. “Our concern is that this is going to spread before we get it under control.”
But a thousand miles away, in Colorado, wax is legal. Anyone over 21 can walk into a recreational marijuana dispensary and buy it right off the shelf. There’s even a three-day contest, named the X-Cup, held in broad daylight in Denver, to see who can make the most potent batch of the same drug upon which DEA agents are cracking down in California.
It is ridiculous to think legitimate drug agents are able to say this shit like this (police chief citing the satire marijuana deaths). I have wax and the only regret I have is that all that high THC content makes it the most sickest natural substance, making it nearly impossible to pack bowls with.
Now that we're on the topic, is making Wax actually all that risky? I've heard reports of it but if they're saying shit like this than who knows if its true.

C02 extraction is fine. Butane extraction is not, if careless.

No. Not really. Provided you do it outside, in the open, away from any flames, you're fine.
Well incredibly high doses of a mind altering substance doesn't sound too healthy for the brain, but given it's by the DEA it's better to take it with a pinch of salt.
Eating wax fruit is one thing, but smoking wax weed? That's just asking for trouble.

It's not as high as they're saying, really. Not to mention it depends on the wax and extraction process used, it varies in quality greatly based on the amount of effort put in to extraction. Obviously there's no real long-term research here, but I know people who've smoked concentrates for years and are fine as far as they know.

its better to take it with an ocean of salt.
It's absolutely ridiculous to think that it can cause brain damage.
I've studied about the stuff, and while I can safely say that it keeps you high for a long haul, it doesn't really have the inflated risk of causing brain damage that the DEA are babbling about.

Pre-setup CO2 extraction chambers go for like 25k
haha yeah fuck that

Seriously though, I mean I imagine it bumps up your tolerance like mad but to cause brain damage is a whole new ballpark

I don't think I can trust a moderator who injects weed.

Oh dude, it royally fucks your tolerance. If you smoke dabs for months, when you try and go back to regular herb you're kinda like, "Meh.". Like everything, a t-break and some patience does wonders though.

Yeah, the guys in DD said that weed is good for you, surely they're right
Yeah, the guys in DD said that weed is good for you, surely they're right
"the guys in the car section said this car is good but obviously they're biased so they must be wrong"
i'm sure /b/rother knows a bit more about this topic than you
The sadistic side of me finds humor in this.
I feel bad for folks that actually do damage themselves, but.. yeah, it's funny to me.
As Aetna said above,my biggest problem, is my tolerance is fucked

I'm not. Of course weed might not be as bad for you as alcohol or even tobacco are, but saying that it's not bad for you at all is retarded
Yeah, the guys in DD said that weed is good for you, surely they're right
Well; let's hear what your unbiased opinion on weed is
I'm not. Of course weed might not be as bad for you as alcohol or even tobacco are, but saying that it's not bad for you at all is retarded
dude you just dont understand weed is the most important issue in this country right now....
I'm not. Of course weed might not be as bad for you as alcohol or even tobacco are, but saying that it's not bad for you at all is retarded
So what? Half the shit we consume on a daily basis is terrible for us too and people overlook that really easily.
I actually have a friend who developed psychosis after years of smoking weed daily. He's now on the pills for his psychosis, he gained like 50 pounds and he keeps babbling on about conspiracy theories and aliens.
I don't know if it's actually the weed or he was always this fucking insane.

I don't think he said that it's completely okay for you ; he just said that he's pretty sure wax doesn't cause brain damage to the extent this report is saying. Vaping is the healthiest way
I could see THC perhaps causing memory-loss but I find this hard to substantiate.

I'd imagine it brought out some pre-existing conditions. And he likely experimented with other drugs too.

???
Just one puff of wax and you will forever be a prisoner of reefer madness
dude you just dont understand weed is the most important issue in this country right now....
Id say there are much bigger things to think about. Buts it's good that states will be able to finally benefit economically from weed; and not police stations
Wax is safer than bud. You vaporize only the THC crystals, leaving harmful carcinogens such as plant matter and butane combustion out of your lungs. It gets you mentally high as fuck, but still ultimately much safer on your cardiovascular/respiratory system.

The weed must have just 'brought it out' so to speak, since THC does show moderate action on the amygdala, where fears and emotional responses are associated.
You also have to understand that weed might not have been the only thing he was experimenting with.
