"Two hours gaming = a line of cocaine" says Therapist
162 replies, posted
An Amish pseudo-scientist named "Dr." Steve Poop claims that two hours of gaming is equivalent to snorting one line of cocaine. He also seems to think that there are only two generations of video games, despite how there have been seven generations so far. He also believes that "game stations" [sic] induce sleeplessness. He also claims that video games and computers turn people into violent serial killers and rapists, and he firmly believes that all electronics should be banned by the government. Unfortunately, this lunatic has been given some press coverage, and shockingly not by Fox News, but by a shady looking indie "news" website. What are your thoughts on his unwarranted false claims and accusations?
On the back of the sleeplessness furore, therapist Steve Pope makes some of the most shocking claims yet
Just one day after claims linking video games to sleeplessness emerged, Lancashire based therapist Steve Pope has made some of the most bewildering accusations yet about the possible harmful effects of gaming.
“Spending two hours on a game station is equivalent to taking a line of cocaine in the high it produces in the brain," Pope told BBC Radio 5Live in an interview last night. “It's the silent killer of our generation.
“We're now onto second generation game station players who have always grown up with it. Computer game addiction can also spiral into violence as after playing violent games, they may turn their fantasy games into reality.
"It is the fastest growing addiction in the country and this is affecting young people mentally and physically."
Describing his campaign against gaming as a "personal quest to spread the message", Pope urged any parents listening to the broadcast to "go upstairs to your kids bedroom and try and take the game station controller out of their hands".
My dad only lets me play 2 hours of video games
Certainly sounds a lot more cost effective than actual lines of cocaine.
Dr. Steve Poop? Right, this is totally legit.

I could've sworn this isn't the first time I've read about gaming being likened to drugs
but I'm too high to remember
Well I've been doing a lot of cocaine then.
Oh my god.

Got to "Amish pseudo-scientist"
His name suits his claim. It's poop.

My dad only lets me do one line of cocaine :/
Bah, he's only doing it for publicity anyway.
That means I take 6 lines of Coke a week. Fuck, I need a rehab.
The Doc's name is Pope, not Poop, and he's not Amish.
I had a feeling I should read the article instead of just trusting the OP.
Its affecting me physically? So im going to have the urge to collect hats?
Yeah, don't read the actual article or anything.
I read the actual article, although I stopped after "Computer game addiction can also spiral into violence as after playing violent games, they may turn their fantasy games into reality."
The name, the source, the content...
This is just a minor trolling event. Nothing to see here folks
An Amish pseudo-scientist
It's obvious the OP was making a joke about it.
