New York City Council has voted to raise the minimum age for buying cigarettes from 18 to 21.
New York will now become by far the most populous place in the US to impose such a high age limit, the Associated Press reports.
The new age limit includes electronic vapour cigarettes.
Across the US there is a minimum age for smoking of 18. Some states have raised the limit to 19 and at least two other towns have raised it to 21.
Why raise the age limit on E-cigs as well?
Why raise the age limit on E-cigs as well?
Probably cause they'll say it'll influence kids to use real cigarettes.
That's why its banned here.
:v:
That's pretty stupid, we might as well raise the drinking age and smoking age to 24 because that's apparently the "age of maturity"
old enough to join the army, but not to smoke. priorities

tbh we should just raise the age of everything to be 1 year younger than me because "fuck you got mine" and "fucking kids these days"
Good thing these age limits are impossible to circumvent
I've never seen anyone under 18 smoking a cigarette
My state, Alabama, is 19 for tobacco. Shit sucks.
Banning things that people want usually doesnt stop them from getting those things according to history.
I believe that 18 year olds are old enough to do whatever they want with THEIR bodies, even if it slightly harms them. It's not like they are mindless babies that need a nanny to make choices for them.
I don't smoke or drink or anything like that, but I think 21 as the minimum is stupid. If I'm old enough to join the military, I should be old enough to destroy my own body.

This, This THIS
I live in Yonkers, Just outside the city.
I can enlist in the military
I can buy cigs
I cannot buy alcohol
So I can sacrifice my life for this country, but can't get a drink
Now in the city
I can enlist
I cant buy cigs
I cant drink alcohol.
I don't even smoke, But come on the people who come up with these laws are literally pants on head retarded

Wait, you can't drink but you're running for public office? How old are you?
You're old enough to die for your country, but your not old enough to buy a handgun or a drink.
I could not have ascertained this crucial snippet of information without it being repeated for a third time
I can't Imagine how much it would suck to just get into smoking, only to immediately have break the habit/ go back to trying to asking friends.
You're old enough to die for your country, but your not old enough to buy a handgun or a drink.
yeah thats kinda what he said??
I don't think this is stupid. People under 21 who really want to smoke will find a way, people under 21 who haven't started will probably be less likely to be bothered to start. A small amount of others under 21 who do smoke will probably attempt to give up if they don't have any easy way of getting a cig.
At the end of the day there's no good side to smoking, so taking measures to reduce the amount of people doing it isn't a bad thing in my books.
New York and their restrictions.

and then they'll use weed needles,
and then CRYSTAL HEROIN
[sp]aren't ECigs an alternative to smoking? wouldn't it be the other way?[/sp]
Just make it like alcohol, permit's hard to obtain but easy to lose.

It's the damned principal of the matter. Yes, it dose matter.

protip: calling lawmakers retarded while running for public office isn't a good idea

You could probably argue that illicit drugs are easier to get as a teen because you don't need an ID for them.
It's the damned principal of the matter. Yes, it dose matter.
Oh sure lets protect your principal instead of people harming themselves and others around them.
Second hand smoke is what keeps me from being bothered by this, Alcohol doesn't spread through the air.
People will do what they want, anyway, though.
protip: calling lawmakers retarded while running for public office isn't a good idea
so we should hide the fact the people in office are creating stupid laws, or just sugar coat it.
so we should hide the fact the people in office are creating stupid laws, or just sugar coat it.
you should probably avoid using terms that upset a large amount of people when trying to curry favor with voters is what i'm saying
First it was the size of the soda cups, or what ever the fuck.
Now this? Why do the people of NYC keep voting for these clowns?

-late snip-
Once you are legally dependent (18 in most states,) and can risk your life in the military, I think it's safe to say you should also be able to drink and smoke.
