Smackdown vs. Raw 2011's one-time code for online play might upset pre-owned buyers - but THQ 'doesn't care'.
That's according to the publisher's creative director for wrestling games Cory Ledesma, who told CVG that "loyal fans" who are interested in buying the game first-hand are more important:
"I don't think we really care whether used game buyers are upset because new game buyers get everything. So if used game buyers are upset they don't get the online feature set I don't really have much sympathy for them."
"That's a little blunt but we hope it doesn't disappoint people. We hope people understand that when the game's bought used we get cheated," he continued.
"I don't think anyone wants that so in order for us to make strong, high-quality WWE games we need loyal fans that are interested in purchasing the game. We want to award those fans with additional content."
Source
Also take a look at the insane graphics from the screenshot in the article. What a dumbfuck.

they are right. what the fuck are yon about. at least some company is getting the balls to do this. maybe this will kill shit like gamestop.
Hell yeah, I think you should also not buy used cars, used CD's, used bicycles, used blabla...
They SOLD their product once, whatever happens to the product AFTER they sold it, is out of their hands.
Kybalt is an annoying git. THQ Don't realize that people will just crack/torrent their games instead so they don't need to piss about with buying another copy just to reinstall it. Atleast if we sell preowned games we've legally bought it and that it's not getting pirated.
I don't think it is out of their hands.
I'm pretty sure they can not let you resell the license for a game if they want to, as Valve does it with Steam accounts.
Yes but it's sketchy with console games.

Either way they're losing money, publishers only persue piracy because they lose money.
When will developers realise that ONE TIME USE CODES are USELESS on PC? Everyone has to reinstall hardware and software sometimes...

This. The only way around is either pirating the game or buying another copy. Either way is retarded for casual/low-funded gamers as each time they have to go out of their way.
When will developers realise that ONE TIME USE CODES are USELESS on PC? Everyone has to reinstall hardware and software sometimes...
Because the codes are usually linked online somewhere, so once it's activated, it doesn't matter.

Pirating or buying second hand is the same shit, if the money doesn't go to the publisher/developer, it's not a legal purchase.

Why should they spend money supporting multiplayer for people who didn't even buy the game from them?
One Solution: STEAM!
When will developers realise that ONE TIME USE CODES are USELESS on PC? Everyone has to reinstall hardware and software sometimes...
Because Steam has failed so many times with their one time use codes.
Oh wait.

Are you dumb? Every country's purchase laws pretty much state if you buy something from a retail store it is a legal purchase and therefore yours.

Smackdown vs Raw is a shit game anyway. So is all the WWE shit.

The first two WWF Smackdown games(Non-RAW) And WWF attitude were incredible fun.
I don't see the problem with buying used games. Just because the company who made the game isn't getting money for a game that was already legally bought doesn't mean it should be illegal.
Pirating or buying second hand is the same shit, if the money doesn't go to the publisher/developer, it's not a legal purchase.
No they aren't. With pirating no money gets to the developer at all.
At least with second hand some money gets to the developer through the original owner.
So how about them pawn shops? And garage sales? And secondhand stores? Really cheating the manufacturers.
Pirating or buying second hand is the same shit, if the money doesn't go to the publisher/developer, it's not a legal purchase
So apparently what your saying is Gamestop, Gamecrazy, Vintage Stock and every other damn place that sells used games is committing a crime? That makes damn near no sense.
Pirating or buying second hand is the same shit, if the money doesn't go to the publisher/developer, it's not a legal purchase.
So is buying a used console also considered illegal?
What if you bought a shit game then? How are you supposed to get at least some money back for your failed investment if no one will buy used games? Chances are, next time you consider buying a game, you won't, for fear of buying a crappy game you can't return, and you will pirate it.
End result: developer shooting themselves in the foot.
Just like book-lending cheats authors, and getting together to watch a tv show or movie cheats the television networks and film studios, and playing a radio in public cheats the musicians and radio stations.
Well fuck all that.
they are right. what the fuck are yon about. at least some company is getting the balls to do this. maybe this will kill shit like gamestop.
Yeah, everyone should be able to afford $70 games only from chains like Walmart or Best Buy, especially people on a fixed budget who still want to enjoy games too.. wait..
what's up with those shit publisher/developers lately trying to make money by doing stupid things
I can see why he doesn't like this.
I still think it's pretty Bleh idea.
Hey guys, remember when we used to actually own the stuff we bought? That was swell.
Wait, no it's still like that on everything else but media.

publishers would rather kill the second hand market rather then the pirates. a shitton of people who pirate wouldnt have bought it in the first place, they lose nothing really. however, if these people go out and buy a second hand copy, this shows that these people were willing to spend money on their product, yet none of the money went to the publisher. and these games are resold more then once often, by gamestop trade ins and what have you.
Why the hell do people have to do this? They sold it, it is now that person's game, not theirs.
