Basically, is it possible to get addicted to being high but not to any specific drug? About eight months back, my uncle died and I began drinking to alleviate my grieving. It started out where I was getting drunk basically every other night. Eventually it got to where I was drinking during the day but I realized what was going on and so I cut it out. More shit happened in my life and I found that I was craving a buzz so I started smoking pot. Usually I only smoke at parties but I had it available whenever so I figured I'd get my buzz by smoking instead of drinking. I eventually started getting drunk again, though, probably twice every week. Anyway fuck it I'll just fast forward I ended up doing amphetamines and benzos and coke and shit. I'm living with my sister now and just a few hours ago I realized I was searching for opiates in her bathroom cabinet, even though I've never tried opiates before in my life. I'm ashamed. Am I addicted to getting fucked up? What's wrong with me?
Some people just have addictive personalities and are constantly craving for a bigger rush. You shouldn't be ashamed, you'll just have to be careful with yourself and probably find something else to keep your mind occupied with. Best thing to do if it's getting very serious - to the point where you're raiding your relatives cupboards for something to get you high - then I'd tell you family what you're doing and ask them for help. Hopefully they'll understand, and I'm sure they'll prefer that you decided to own up and get yourself help than have them eventually find out you've been stealing from them or some crazy shit :v:
Of course it's possible. if i wake up and cant get high i think 'fuck'
physically; no. mentally; yes.
what the hell this thread confuses me "Is it possible to get addicted to being high?" dunno man, i dont think there's such a thing in this world like a drug addict or anything
physically; no. mentally; yes.
drugs can be physically addictive too I'm really confused, you're asking if you can be addicted to being high in general? Of course you can, who doesn't know that .. ?

Sobriety just feels like shit sometimes. That's what an addiction is, it's not like you NEED the drug or that feeling, you can stop any time, you just don't want to. It's fairly normal OP, but try to let yourself be sober for a while. Just enjoy the moment you're in for what it is, you know you don't need the drugs so just don't take em for a while. Moderation is key.
you can mentally be addicted to anything you enjoy.
About eight months back, my uncle died and I began drinking to alleviate my grieving.
Sorry for your loss. If you're looking for that "escape from reality" feeling (i know that feel bro) and you've run dry/don't want to do drugs, I personally like to put on big headphones, close my eyes and just listen to some music for a while. If you get cravings, you should focus on moderation, or quitting all together. Then again, I'm really not the best person to take advice from, I have a horribly self-destructive personality.
you can mentally be addicted to anything you enjoy.
That argument is so old and outdated it makes me cringe. Yes, you can be mentally addicted to anything, even things you DON'T enjoy for that matter. And with out population, chances are, somebody out there IS addicted to it if you can name it. But while there may be one person on Earth addicted to eating frog legs dipped in honey and barbecue sauce, there are far more addicted to cigarettes or cocaine or meth. What I'm trying to say here, long to short, is that while anything CAN be mentally addicting, there are things that are more likely to become a problem, and an altered state of mind like the one you get from being high makes addiction chances much higher, which is what I was getting at.
What could possibly be addictive about something that makes you feel better all the time?
ignorance is also an addiction
IIRC you can't be physically addicted, but you could be mentally addicted enough to make it feel like you are.
Chemically no, psychologically, yes. You can become psychologically addicted to ANYTHING. Using a substance is about personal responsibility. True psyche addiction is defined by being problematic, interfering in your day-to-day life, craving more and more. Responsible recreational users separate their activities from the rest of their life, and don't allow substances to dictate their choices. Honestly, you can become physically addicted to a substance and still live a responsible lifestyle. Substances are inanimate, they are tools, like firearms. I own firearms, but I'm not going to kill anyone with them, am I? No, because I'm a responsible firearm owner, same goes for my usage of recreational drugs. It's use, not abuse, just remember that. A substance becomes a problem, not by being used, but by being misused. I've blurred the line between use and abuse a few times, and let me tell you, it's a horrible feeling. I'll never do something so irresponsible ever again.
its technically not addiction since addiction in the medial world, is defined as a physical change in the brain that requires the drug more and more. Psychological dependence is how they would categorize it since THC doesnt permanently alter the brain to where you require it to function. However you can psychologically develop a constant craving for the substance and state in which it brings just like how people become "addicted" to their favorite activities to the point where it effects daily life.
how is ur argument any different? lol
Lauscript said anything can be mentally addicting. I say that his point is irrelevant and a poor argument (even though I agree with his side).
