• Remember when the BBC played Rome Total War on TV? Time Commanders

With Rome 2 just being announced yesterday I've been watching Time Commanders! This show was the coolest thing the BBC ever showed on my TV back in 2004. It is a show that uses the Rome Total War engine with some edits for TV but basically they put a bunch of people in command of an army in a historical battle and they have to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of their units and then try and win the battle. It's such a fun thing to watch! There are a ton of episodes of youtube, I'm watching this one right now which is Hannibal's invasion of Italy. It's very historical and they have military experts giving advice on how the battle should be played. God I was talking about this to my friend the other day and I couldn't remember the title at all, there was another program that had people trying to deal with disasters that followed this type of setup as well.
I watched every episode of this, it was one of the greatest shows ever. I remember in one episode the team sent a scout to attack a group of troops alone.
This show is fantastic. Now I would give my left arm to get to see two actual military officers go at each other in a game of Combat Mission.
I wish they would bring this back for Rome II.
History Channel used to run a show called "Decisive Battles" that utilized RTW... ...back in 2004 when they still ran stuff that was actually interesting and pertained to history...
i guess OP found that thread on TWC too?
I wonder how these folks would fare in an online battle, eh? See if members of the regular community can beat these "tactical geniuses".

That's so fucking cool.
I love how terrible the people they get are. That one spin doctor that told the guy at the computer to "just send everything at them"
Damn it i'm meant to be up early for work tommorow I just know that i'm going to be watching these episodes late into the night. [editline]4th July 2012[/editline] Oh and BTW one of the historians, Aryeh Nusbacher has a sex change op.
