The US government has given half a billion dollars to the UN's Green Climate Fund, just three days before Donald Trump takes office.
Barack Obama's outgoing administration announced the contribution of $500m (£406m; €468m) on Tuesday, bringing the total funds to date to $1bn.
...
Republican senators have previously stated their opposition to the fund, and called the payments a waste of money.
"This is to make up for the next 4 years"
I'm sure paying to save the environment on the only habitable planet we've currently got isn't a waste of money, but I bet those politicians who think global warming is a Chinese myth wouldn't agree with simple common sense. :/

Haha, cause Trump is president now and that's a "bad thing", right?
Haha, cause Trump is president now and that's a "bad thing", right?
Yes
-snip-
That's not a lot of money after they give billions to a foreign nation for no reason every year

Haha, cause Trump is president now and he's "gonna make America great again," right?
Haha, cause Trump is president now and that's a "bad thing", right?
Certainly so!
No matter what his thoughts on the matter are, a GOP controlled congress and his cabinet picks are awful in regards to climate change.
Haha, cause Trump is president now and that's a "bad thing", right?
Well, yeah. He's completely terrible. We were going to get fucked no matter what, we're just getting fucked upfront and hard with Trump as opposed to the alternatives. There was no good outcome for this election, nothing to be hopeful about. So it really just boiled down to picking how we wanted to kill ourselves.

Agreed, in the short term it's going to be bad, but in the long term the effects of Trump's presidency and a GOP majority for 2 (probably 4) years will outweigh the nightmares that could have resulted from Clinton winning.
"Screw You, GOP"
Can we take Obama now?
Agreed, in the short term it's going to be bad, but in the long term the effects of Trump's presidency and a GOP majority for 2 (probably 4) years will outweigh the nightmares that could have resulted from Clinton winning.
I don 't know if I'd got that far. I think they were equally terrible in different ways. Clinton was going to set us up for the long game of a slow, painful death. Trump is giving us a relatively quick, also painful death. Its going to much more harsh of a transition under Trump because of just how quickly things will go to shit under him. But truth be told, they're also far more visible. The Clinton path was going to be a more insidious and subtle issue.
I think Trump might be better only because of that visibility, because in the aftermath there will be a large push to try to correct the damage, although the damage itself is likely to be harder to correct. Clinton wouldn't be as outrageous, hers wouldn't cause people to rally as much or pay as much attention to the problems. By that, they could easily be ignored until the damage was much further along than with Trump just by nature of being on a slow burn.
Compare to global warming. Its subtle and slow enough for people that many can just ignore it and live their lives blissfully unaware, which is what has allowed us to hit the extreme conditions we are now faced with where we may not be able to correct the damage.

No, he's ours. Give us Stephen Frye and the original cast of top gear, and we'll talk

Pray tell, which billions are 'wasted' that you are talking about? I hope youre not talking about foreign aid.
God damn that's awesome
surprised no one made a "Thanks, Obama." joke

Imagine a world where both Los Angeles and New York are completely flooded and uninhabitable. That is a world where Trump and men like him continue to be in power.

Better than 4 or 8 years of Clinton.

Completely serious. Zedacon makes the case better than I ever could.
Better than 4 or 8 years of Clinton.
What happened to you?
I don't think there is any evidence that a Hillary Clinton presidency would be worse considering she's not going to be president?
Like I could predict the next Sleeping Dogs game is going to be amazing but I'd also be 100% pulling that out of my ass.
Better than 4 or 8 years of Clinton.
did you pull a pvt martin after giving up on Clinton?
Better than 4 or 8 years of Clinton.
An unsubstantiated claim.

Can you actually explain your reasoning?
Can you actually explain your reasoning?
I think maybe he's just at taking the accelerationiat viewpoint that we might as well vote the most corrupt person possible so people learn thier lesson. Of course it's just as possible we set a precedent where people are so complacent that politicians don't even need to bother hiding it so long as they keep the lemmings fed with a steady drip of trite slogans
Better than 4 or 8 years of Clinton.
I enjoy the irony of Trump supporters saying people are being melodramatic about Trump but then acting the same or worse way about Hillary.
Haha, cause Trump is president now and that's a "bad thing", right?
Trump as president would be great because he pisses everyone in the political circle off. But because Trump gets to pick people he wants for some important positions in the government, Yeah it's bad

Whether or not the Republicans are pissed at Trump is meaningless when he is just going to rubber stamp everything that comes across his desk from Congress anyway.
