First video is an offensive engagement while the second video is a motorized rifle platoon assaulting a defensive position during a public show. now i want popcorn
You have a motor company? I raise you one A-10 Warthog
You have a motor company? I raise you one A-10 Warthog
The A-10 is a completely useless airframe against any country with a decent air defense system in place.

Sometimes you need to have heavy, organic firepower. As a matter of fact, Tac Error even explained some of the weaknesses present in the over-reliance of air power not too long ago.
You can't always rely on the Air Force to back you up every time you encounter enemy armor. Sometimes you need to have heavy firepower at the organic level.
I believe that's a recurring problem of American (and Western) ground forces ever since the end of the Cold War. With the Digital Revolution of the 1990s, our witnessing of Operation Desert Storm (low casualties, "magical" precision weapons, to name a few), the collapse of a potential peer adversary and ultimately the characteristics of Western culture (most notably even a low amount casualties is seen as unacceptable), we've come increasingly to rely on digital wizardry and technological might to replace blood with mixed results. Air power is viewed as a "clean" (meaning low casualties for us) and "surgical" (precision munitions, one hit one kill) weapon of war that is exempt from "fog" and "friction". Of course, that has proven to be wrong when we face forces that aren't led by Saddam Hussein. [editline]4th May 2011[/editline] I mean, if you speak to a few Facepunchers, many of them will say things very positively about air power, like if it is the game-changer of this age. That itself is a reflection of the stuff I've said above.

That was a whole lot of CGI, fake explosions and dropping countermeasure flares. This is as representative of the A-10's abilities as posting an airsoft skirmish video would be of the Royal Marines in action.
I guess you could say the US military has gone 'soft' in that it hasn't exactly needed to train to fight a fully equipt modern army in recent years. On another note, this is certainly interesting to see how the Russians would do things in such scenarios. I don't think i've seen many of these 'tactics' videos.
On another note, this is certainly interesting to see how the Russians would do things in such scenarios. I don't think i've seen many of 'tactics' these videos.
Just note that these are low level "tactics" that don't say a lot of the Soviet/Russian military as a whole. Flexibility and creativity of the commanders goes up as the level of command increases. It isn't until battalion (and sometimes company) level that flexibility and maneuver becomes evident in their tactics.
they look silly i like to pretend they have conversations with each other like in the beginning "aw shit what the fuck my gun aw fuck" "you okay" "yeah i just gotta oh shit bad guys start shooting ok it's done let's get the fuck home and watch friends"
In the first video, were those AK-102's that they were using?
In the first video, were those AK-102's that they were using?
AK-74
AK-74
Thank you for clarifying. [editline]4th May 2011[/editline] All of a sudden, I feel like watching a video or two of an american mechanized infantry battle drill.
Too bad that the US Army has focused almost exclusively on irregular warfare since 2001.
And even then, the US Army post-WWII has historically trained primarily at brigade level and below. Fighting a peer mechanized opponent is the realm of operational-level warfare and that is not one of the US Army's strong points despite adopting it with the publication of the 1982 Operations manual. Consider that even today, officers in the US Army still mainly identify "strategy" and "tactics" as the only two levels of war.

There are much cheaper - and plentiful - alternatives like mounting ATGMs/recoilless rifles/autocannons (almost all of which are able to disable or destroy 90% of the ground targets you'll encounter out there) on a lightly-armored chassis, for a mere fraction of the price.

We already have the tanks!
This isn't an RTS. We already have the tanks!
It's not just a one-time purchase. The Abrams still requires a lot of maintenance after it's been bought and deployed. The more you use it, the more you have to pay for it. Not to mention that since it costs so much it'd be devastating to lose one in combat.

In soviet Russia, being caught by terrorists means you ARE a terrorist.
Gotta love the cold war style trainings.
