Absolutely superb movie... De Niro gives me the shivers lol 70s were truly the golden age... its tough to find that much attention to detail in a person's character in movies today Anyone else seen it? Comments
Yeah, the movie was quite amazing, but next time you make a thread, make a better OP.
Scorsese is just an outstanding director, and De Niro is an amazing actor. Great movie.
This film is fantastic. I think it great that it's not one of those films where some guy just loses it and goes fucking crazy and kills everyone. It's pretty unique in the sense that it's a lot more personal. I know he really developed a hate for just about everything in the city, but since he decided to help just one person instead of go around and cleaning up the streets tenfold made for a better experience. Brilliant film, if you've not seen it I highly recommend it.
This movie caused a president to get shot!
Kinda freakish that was Apparently Taxi Driver 2 is in the making, oh well any De Niro/Scorcese concoction is brilliant anyway
It's a good film but doing an analytical essay of the ending sequence and in turn having to watch it about 20 times killed it for me
what were your conclusions dave
Of what I can remember, that the end of the shoot-out could have been a moment of final redemption for Travis and ended with his demise (symbolised by the gesture of shooting himself in the head), having finally felt like he'd saved someone ever since the destruction of his innocence in 'nam (assumed, since it is never explicity stated he was actually there) or having been raised in the city. The final sequence could thereby be seen as his personal afterlife, being recognised for his heroism and starting to save a city that in life he knew was beyond help. It's sorta waffled out bullshit, but then that's what ambiguous endings are made for
It seems to flow really well. It just seems like one long day
Great film. I could watch the ending shootout over and over again.

What makes this movie so powerful, in my opinion, is that it portrays modern alienation so well. Usually in movies a character like this is a total nutjob, with no 'normal' traits. The kind of character that makes you think "wow, that was crazy" while you watch the movie. Travis is different. I feel sad for him because he's thisclose to being a regular okay guy. Such as when he asks the girl out, first of all she's pretty hot, so he's got the balls to get out of his cab and ask this girl(who is obviously out of his league) out. Hooray Travis! But then he takes her to a porno theater, d'oh! To be fair, there was a time in the early 70s where it was a fad for couples to go to porn theaters together, so he was trying to fit in with that fad- still that was clearly a "d'oh!" moment.
