The extent of the damage will become clearer today as authorities begin assessing the aftermath of the wild weather. More than 100 residents of an apartment block in Kings Park had to be evacuated from the building after part of the hill near Jacob's Ladder collapsed in the storm, causing a landslide on Mounts Bay Road. Yousr Kanbour says she was next door to an apartment that took the brunt of the landslide. She says she had no idea what was happening until a police officer knocked on her door and asked her to open her bedroom blinds. "There was sand everywhere, everywhere outside and it was halfway filled through my window and all the mud was in my room," she said. People who were unable to spend the night with friends and family have slept in temporary accommodation at the Perth Convention Centre. The storm wreaked havoc on the city with flooded roads causing major traffic delays. Flight schedules were thrown into chaos, as were train and bus services. Homes were damaged, with more than 150,000 properties left without electricity as powerlines and trees were brought down across the city. Several hospitals were also damaged, with 20 people evacuated from an emergency department in northern Perth after parts of the hospital's ceiling caved in. A number of schools were damaged and will remain closed. Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett has already predicted the damage bill could run into hundreds of millions of dollars. Mr Barnett says he fears the full impact of the storm is yet to be unveiled. "I think from my memory this would be the most severe weather conditions we've had since the famous May storm in 1994 where we had very very strong winds and a massive loss of power supply," he said. "Hopefully the damage to the power supply won't be as severe but I suspect this time we've got a lot more damage to buildings and housing." The weather bureau says the thunderstorm has weakened overnight, but heavy rainfall is still expected today. The Insurance Council of Australia has declared the Perth storm an insurance catastrophe and an insurance taskforce has been established to assist damage claims. The council says it is too early to place an estimate on the cost or the number of claims, but should have a better idea within the next 48 hours. I was caught in this storm whilst waiting for my bus, it was definitely the worst storm i've ever experienced.
Is this even a real city? All those places sound made up.
I want to know what Jacobs Ladder is.
I sense a Global Warming debate brewing [editline]08:42PM[/editline] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob's_Ladder ladder to heaven
Is this even a real city? All those places sound made up.
Perth Western Australia. Lived there for a while.
I wish this happened to me...
"S-s-trike!, you're out!"
I want to know what Jacobs Ladder is.
A long set of steep stairs running up to King's Park. Absolute bitch to run up.
I wish this happened to me...
Not if you drive, I was amazingly lucky that yesterday was one of the very few days I couldn't drive the car to uni - just about everyone who did has windows smashed and dents on every surface.

But I decided to skip it because it's such a god damn boring lecture. Guess I chose the best option.
Watt a shocking series of events. That sucks. On the other hand that picture is pretty damn awesome.
On the way home all i saw was destruction and flooding :wooow: The roads were full-up to the kerb, the huge concrete 'bathplug' style manholes near major storm-drains had actually come out and were overflowing everywhere, a local duckpond had burst it's banks, and a few parks had become small lakes. We passed another bus which had broken down and was trapped in a flooded street, and when i got out of my bus i was instantly soaked through just walking a few meters to my house [which was remarkably unharmed]. What the flying fuck is going on with our planet??? First all these damn quakes, now my city has been hit with 'the worst storm in 50 years'! Better get ready people, worlds gonna end soon.
