About 1,000 officers were involved in the operation to keep the two sides apart, as the protesters blocked roads, burned tyres and threw firecrackers. The Alternative fur Deutschland (AfD) party is expected to re-brand itself as openly anti-Islamic during the meeting. The AfD wants to ban the burqa and outlaw minarets in Germany. A police spokesman said protesters threw stones at officers and let off fireworks in their direction.
http://www.dw.com/en/afd-party-congress-starts-in-stuttgart-despite-demonstrations/a-19226479
The party congress of the right-wing Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) in the German city of Stuttgart started on Saturday after a one-hour delay, amid protests by about 1,000 left-wing demonstrators. The protesters tried to block the entry to the venue of the party congress, shouting slogans such as: "Keep refugees, drive Nazis away!" and "We'll get you all." According to a police spokesperson, demonstrators blocked a road to the venue with burning tyres for half an hour. They also temporarily blocked traffic on highway A8 in both directions near Stuttgart Airport, trying to prevent AfD members who arrived by plane from attending the congress. Hooded demonstrators lit firecrackers and threw them at police officers. The police used tear gas and a water cannon amid the clashes with the protesters. About 400 people were detained, police said.
Reichpunchers: your thoughts on AfD? Are they basically merging with those Pegida dudes now or what?
Just because you don't like a certain party doesn't mean you can go outside, block roads with burning tires and attack security forces. I'm not sure what they expected besides making them look as bad as the party they want to protest against.
I had heard they made some gains in a few mid-term district elections.
If people have ideological aversion to conservatism or right-wing ideas this is not the way to defeat them. These thugs only prove the right correct.
Werent these the conservative groups that were exposed for taking funds laundered from the Kremlin?
What is up with all the people attacking right-wing rallies and the like recently? Trump, AfD, etc.
What is up with all the people attacking right-wing rallies and the like recently? Trump, AfD, etc.
Fear and an unwavering sense of self righteousness.
What is up with all the people attacking right-wing rallies and the like recently? Such violent attacks have occurred as frequently as they have in recent years because of the recent resurgence of anti-immigration factions.
because most right wing is old people and most left wing is young people young people are more likely to protest because, well, they aren't old
I already seen that parking complex by the Airport
