What applications could this have?
What applications could this have?
Weirdly angled and wobbling running scenes in movies. Or, I just thought of it. Make it big enough to fit a human. New way of travel.
Looks like it's fucked if it tries to run along the side of a slope.
I love how they talk so seriously about it like it's the most sophisticated "legged robot" ever while it looks like a toy commercial. "...is the only robot inherently stable at running speed" *footage as it slowly approaches the curb side of the road and cuts off right before it's inevitable doom*

Obviously Kojima is going to use a design similar to this for the next annoying little robot in his upcoming Metal Gear Solid game.
awkwardly sprinting land mines
Why not just use 2 wheels?
What applications could this have?
Chasing down and dismembering humans, obviously.
Last time I checked, legs didn't spin in a loop on an axis. Those are rimless wheels, not legs
Last I checked ten miles per hour is no where near the speed of most cars, even in residential zones.
yeah not running neither, more like rolling
Whats even the point of this, it's just a lesser wheel.
They should keep adding more legs until it creates a smooth, almost circular surface. I'd call it the roly poly legmaster 2000. Now that's an invention.
It looks more like an interesting development of stabilizing technology. Yeah a wheel would be better but at the same time, the knowledge they can gain keeping this thing upright could be used to develop more stable "legged" robots. And i guess in the future, It may be better over rough terrain, avoiding the problem of wheeled vehicles ramping of of small stones and the like and crashing.
Wow How come nobody ever thought of this before? You are a genius!
Thanks I'm heading to the patent office right now.
But is it any good on rough terrain? because otherwise it might as well be a wheeled vehicle. I've had faster rc cars.
Last time I checked, legs didn't spin in a loop on an axis. Those are rimless wheels, not legs
It has only three spokes on each side. I haven't seen a triangular wheel roll that smoothly before.
The walking cycle is more efficient than a wheel though. It just depends on stabilization.
awkwardly sprinting land mines
that pop out of the ground and charge at the enemy with extremely loud sirens and flashing lights
It has only three spokes on each side. I haven't seen a triangular wheel roll that smoothly before.
it has six spokes in it's entirety. which is the only reason it is staying upright. if a vehicle wheel was a triangle, and the second wheel was also a triangle but offput to correlate with the position of the other wheel like in the video, it would drive just as smoothly as the creepy not-wheel in the op.
So it's wheels for the poor?

How would this be any better than a tire with an electric motor, battery, and some gyroscopic stabilizers or whatever they're called?
If nothing else, it will make for a very interesting RC toy.
