Firefighters mistakenly pump jet fuel on fire instead of water
The Washington State Patrol is investigating a serious mishap that occurred Oct. 25th at its fire training academy in North Bend.
During a training exercise, firefighters mistakenly pumped jet fuel instead of water onto a flaming mock-up of an airplane crash.
KING 5 obtained video that shows an enormous fireball erupted when the fuel hit the flames at the training site.
“When the firefighters put water on a fire that had been deliberately developed for training the fire got bigger instead of smaller,” said Bob Calkins of the State Patrol, which is investigating the incident.
A++
At least there were only minor injuries. That could've been a lot worse.
I was hoping it was some kind of excessive and not a real fire.
It was a prank by the training academy's Delta House, who are now on double secret probation.
Don't firefighters use dry chemical extinguish on plane fires instead of water?
'..for a situatuion that became too hot to handle'
Man new stations really are at the top of the pun game..

You could even say that they're on fire
Fight fire with fire.
Fight fire with fire.
not with jet fuel though
They said it was a problem with the pump system which wasn't feeding it water properly. They had no idea and just thought they were sending water.

I think they use a foam to oxygen starve the fire and to not spread the flammable fuel like you would if you used water
Don't firefighters use dry chemical extinguish on plane fires instead of water?
i think they use that for chemical fires, like burning fuel or phosphorous or w/e.
For chipboard and regular materials they use water
I really wonder how they mistaken jet fuel for some kind of fire extinguishing fluid/foam whatever it is. Jet fuel is clearly labeled (i.e. Jet A)
In case anyone was wondering how on earth they managed it:
Calkins said investigators believe that the academy’s oil/water separator – which recycles the water used for fire training exercises – did not correctly filter the jet fuel used for the exercise from the reclaimed water.
So crews filled their tanks with water tainted with jet fuel -– a combustible combination.
So it's not like they literally filled their tanks from the fuel tanks.
Thank Zeus it was only a training exercise.
still though, how do you fuck up quite that badly
they could have pumped orange juice out of that hose and it would've been less of a fuck up
Thats so Kerbal
it seems like this accident only happened because of the specific way the training program was set up. a real situation like this would likely not have the hose hooked up to a jet fuel line
Someone is going to lose their job over this probably
you could say they're going to get laid off

Ya blew it

It would really suck to lose your job over a mechanical failure that isn't your fault.

anybody asking "lol how could they fuck that up rofl"
maybe you should watch the video in the source or read the article.
Firefighters are normally fucking stupid, so I'm not surprised.

Even if they were stupid (and they're not), it's totally forgivable because they've got balls of adminium
I bet they were so confused.
"We're spraying water on this thing, what the fuck is going on?!"

What fucking asshole puts jet fuel down the drain, I think is the real fuckup here!

Firefighters don't work as much as the media makes them out to, and for the record, they're typically really fucking stupid.

jesus dude, who set a fire in your underwear?

Having had the displeasure to consistently work with them, you actually understand what type of people they typically are.
Not saying all of them are bad, but a lot of them, mostly city ones, are arrogant, incompetent and self-righteous
Bravo class fires, that might involve gas/aircraft fuel, you should use foam such as AFF, or water as long as it isnt a direct stream so you dont spread the gas around.
