What happened to teaching me stuff about the world and not just showing me lies?
What happened to teaching me stuff about the world and not just showing me lies?
Ratings.
What happened to teaching me stuff about the world and not just showing me lies?
It became unprofitable.
Instead of having a show with actual intelligence that is knowledgeable on guns but entertaining at the same time, Discovery gives us scripted "HURR BUBBA GUESS WHAT WE MAKIN TODAY BOYS? PURTY GUN!"
silenced grenade launcher is probably where Discover channel died. Most of the builds are, "Oh lets stick 3 guns together" and they still manage to fuck it up.
Pretty cool done, but they overdid it
The minute they took Deadliest catch from being a documentary, to a drama, was the second Discovery lost all integrity.
That bitch is going to scrape out the diamonds and sell them.
I remember overhearing a commercial for this episode when my dad was watching discovery, when the guy said he was going to make his wife or sister or something a nice CLASSIC 1911, my interest piqued so i looked over as i adore vanilla classic guns. The sight my eyes beheld was revolting. Why do poeple do this to 1911's? Hell even Kimbers are fine, at least they're not completely fucked over with "Tactical" addons.
I remember when I was younger, I could watch an entire show about how praying mantis mate, in detail, on Discovery. Or about the natural habitats of chimps. Or about the savanna. Or about Mars. Not anymore.
The minute they took Deadliest catch from being a documentary, to a drama, was the second Discovery lost all integrity.
To be fair, there isn't much to say about the actual fishing that hasn't already been said 500 times.
Isn't there another, more legit Discovery channel on the higher cable channels, I don't have cable so I don't know.
To be fair, there isn't much to say about the actual fishing that hasn't already been said 500 times.
It was still cool to watch these guys work through life and death situations to earn their pay. Now all it's about is drama.
If you don't like it, don't watch it.
If you don't like it, don't watch it.
"you can't say out loud what you think about things you dislike, no negative criticism allowed ever, you should ignore everything you don't like, like it wouldn't exist"
The only show on Discovery that doesn't have all this idiotic injected drama is Mythbusters. Why can't more shows be like Mythbusters.
Now that i think about it, discovery channel isnt about discovery at all. Ratings. Killing our entertainment for the greater good of the dumb.
Why can't more shows be like Mythbusters.
There are, but they all fail.
Sodomy of the Soldier's Friend
I stopped watching these kind of shows when they screwed with a M1919 adding rails and grips to it on Sons of Guns.
At least Discovery channel lasted much longer before going down. I still love the channel, but I can agree with these points. How many of you remember what TLC was like back in 1997? It was my 1# channel because they had shows like Blastmasters, various documentaries on explosives/controlled demolition, construction, it just plain out kicked ass. Then sometime in the early 00's it pretty much turned into the womens network. The content of the channel was like reading a grocerystore tabloid rag.
Discovery still isn't that bad, it's just you need to pick and choose the shows. Mythbusters is still great, but i prefer the old episodes where the show had more building in it than blowing shit up. Dirty Jobs is still entertaining even though Mike Rowe is now just a blatant asshole. They're essentially just throwing shows at us and seeing what sticks to our interests.
Just like History Channel and Cartoon Network.
Those diamonds looked awful i thought it looked like some girl scout project or something
Those diamonds looked awful i thought it looked like some girl scout project or something
It reminded me of macaroni art. Like some kid put a line of elmer's glue down and just dumped a bag of glitter on it.
I miss the times when I stayed up late at night watching World War Two documentaries. Shows like Mythbusters, Brainiac, Dirty Jobs and How It's Made, even though they might not teach us anything, inspire and show how the world is. It's like Discovery tries every bit to poke the stupid uneducated jersey shore loving masses and say "Hey, come on! There's loads of incredible stuff to see in the world! It's not even science." But then there are shows like American Chopper or this, which though they might be entertaining, bring nothing to the table.
I miss watching all of the documentaries on History Channel. Those were all really interesting, but I guess people just want to watch Ancient Aliens and Top Shot all day.
What? Where did my awesome documentaries go? All this fake drama started when they started editing Deadliest Catch too much. That show was awesome as a documentary. No, scratch that, this fake drama bullshit started with American Chopper. Seriously, has anyone ever watched more than one episode of that show? Rage fuel.
welp, television is dead to me as a form of entertainment, as discovery was the last bastion of hope
