Seriously, it's beggining to get annoying. Most of the time, girls do it, but guys do it a lot too. A prime example of a conversation using the word, "like" every other sentance would be:
Hey guys. Are you, like, doing anything special, like, tommorow or like, sometime soon. Because i'm like, bored and like, I have nothing to do during the week. You see, my parents are, like, on vacation without me and like, there's nothing to like, do, so like, you think we can like, go hang out sometime?
Why do you think people do this?
Like, what are you talking about?
It's an adopted and developed stutter.
It's like, just a puberty phase. Like, just get over it.
It's also a replacement for "uhh" or other thinking fillers when talking.
Imagine if everyone said shit instead of like
That'd be so good
It's an idiosyncrasy of sponatenous speech, it's very common.
jesus
this has only been going on for, I don't know, ten years now

I don't know. Same reason you rape commas maybe?
I noticed it's very common in the west coast. My east coast family always points out that we say like a lot.

What he said.
Oh, it just comes natural to people, it's to compensate for speaking so fast, they aren't thinking their words out. Atleast, this what my creative speech class teacher says.
Like, what are you talking about?
I wish there was a "predicable" rating
ITs just like saying "uhm" or "uhh", I read something before saying it is used because people want to distance themselves from what they say incase they are wrong about something.

.
I was like reading this thread like and then like I finished reading it like and started like writing this like.
It's the same thing as when Obama repeatedly says "Uhhh" every other word.
Take that how you will. I usually take it to mean the person is an idiot who speaks far before they think.
I noticed it's very common in the west coast. My east coast family always points out that we say like a lot.
You have two families?!
We say Like all the time because we lack the vocabulary to put another word into it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who, like, noticed that.
You have two families?!
Dad's side and Mum's side.
When I use it, I only use it as a necessary stutter once. ex/ "So it's like..." and that's it. That I don't mind. It's just when it becomes unnecessary. ex/ "I wanted to know if you were like, going to the mall..."
I mainly here it when girls are talking about what happened last night
"And then i was like, and then she was like, and then i was like, and then she was like.........."
We say Like all the time because we lack the vocabulary to put another word into it.
No. They're actually adding in a word to hold up the conversation to think of the next thing to say or to extend the sentence to be more natural to say for them, so it has nothing to do with a lack of words.
Yeah it's just a thinking filler, a lot of people do it without actually knowing what they are saying.

I reread the sentence he wrote and replaced the likes with shit. Was good fun.
This one guy in my speech class goes Like um like ummm like ummm every sentence. It's very annoying.

You have a creative speech class? Pardon my ignorance but...what the hell?
