He has been holed up inside the Ecuadorian Embassy for the past two and a half years to avoid being arrested and extradited to Sweden. But that has not stopped Julian Assange from courting publicity, whether from the balcony or from behind his computer. The WikiLeaks founder has used the whistleblowing website’s official Twitter account to publicise a funding drive for the creation of a life-size bronze public artwork featuring himself, Chelsea Manning and Edward Snowden, described as a “a monument to courage”. The proposed statue by Italian sculptor Davide Dormino, entitled Anything to Say?, will depict the trio standing on chairs, with another empty seat beside them onto which members of the public will be encouraged to climb – allowing them to stand shoulder to shoulder with the whistleblowers. Organisers need £100,000 to complete the project, a sum they hope to raise by 1 January through the crowd-funding website Kickstarter. With just 21 days to go, only £19,360 has been pledged – perhaps explaining why Mr Assange chose to alert WikiLeaks’ 2.4 million Twitter followers to the campaign. Someone's full of himself.
Need to thin the hair more to really capture the whole "skeevy looking fucker" effect.
Doesn't exactly surprise me that someone who became famous on leaking government related information would ride on the highest of horses.
It's actually a plan to build a perfect fit effigy inside of which they will smuggle him from the embassy he's locked in. [editline]13th December 2014[/editline] Basically inverse Trojan horse.
This article is about a retweet. The Wikileaks account retweeted this: https://twitter.com/HawaiiFOWL/status/542601390128779265 "Spearheading" indeed.
I don't think he deserves a statue, i think more so Chelsea and Edward deserve one though.
As much as I like what Assange did with wikileaks and advocating transparency, he has failed to act in accordance with his own ideals by refusing to go to court for the allegations against him. I also fail to see how hiding himself in an embassy is courage and I personally think it belittles the courage of Manning and Snowden. Actually, even Manning unreasonably put fellow soldiers at risk. Really Snowden is the only one I would support with this but I still find it rather silly.
I know that Chelsea and Edward are getting a statue, I'm just saying julian doesn't deserve a statue as much as they do. They should make his statue a little smaller or something
The proposed statue by Italian sculptor Davide Dormino, entitled Anything to Say?, will depict the trio standing on chairs, with another empty seat beside them onto which members of the public will be encouraged to climb
I think that's pretty okay I guess
Gotta keep that cult of personality going.
not to play the devil's advocate here, but isn't this an attempt to cement (lol) his actions? like, he's afraid people might forget about what he leaked
That sounds great.
And people honestly thought this guy was "revolutionary"?
"you think it's julian assange, but it's really JULIAN ASSANGE!"
IT'S ME ASSANGE. IT WAS ME ALL ALONG
they can have a statue that sounds cool

[editline]13th December 2014[/editline] Basically inverse Trojan horse.
Also serves as a convenient sarcophagus in case somebody assassinates him.
"you think it's julian assange, but it's really JULIAN ASSANGE!"
BUT IT WAS ME, JULIAN!
if I was hyper rich I'd make a statue of myself, but make it super silly, and have it completely poking fun at me because that's the only way you make a statue like that and not look like a butthead
I'm really sick of this guy tbh
So courageous, everyone who gave him the information he is famous for is in jail, sort of reminds me that this guy just uses people. He has been on record saying he thinks he's like the CIA and is a counterinteligence agency
Sweden has a history of conducting police raids on people America doesn't like, why would you trust them with the guy that published US leaks.
Looking it up again I didn't see that recently Ecuador invited Sweden to preform a joint-trial and Sweden refused, so I have changed my feelings on Assange.
It looks nothing like Benedict Cumberbatch.
Quality journalism from the telegraph News story, about a retweet, about other people wanting to build a statue of edward snowden, chelsea manning and julian assange. We'll just paraphrase that to "dicknose wants to build statue of himself" because that captures the essence of truthiness
Name of the game is to entice people to read your article. It's sad.
the trojan horse didn't have horses in it
Then how would they have transported all of those soldiers inside? They certainly couldn't have traveled on foot!
