This game is definitely super underrated, or at least underplayed. Really good, and coop is a blast. To a lesser extent I feel Yoshi's Wooly World was another Wii U game that was better than it gets credit for. It's really not the super casual boring stroll you might expect it to be.
Bloody hell this looks amazing. I will say that I wish I could spot, analyse then articulate mechanics in games like this. I've tried but I just can't.
I remember wanting to play this so badly when it was released(like many other nintendo exclusives lmao) and it always seemed amazing to me, but was surprised by the lack of popularity that made me kinda sceptical thinking it might not be as good mechanically as it seems and just look pretty But I've seen quite a few people making analytical videos of it so now I want to play it badly again
Donkey Kong Country is amazing to me because the series has maintained its difficulty throughout its entire lifespan imo. Unlike the new Mario games, DKC can actually get pretty fucking difficult in the newer ones, while still living up to its predecessors. If anyone hasn't played the new DKC (either Returns or Tropical Freeze) yet, I highly recommend it if you like platformers. Awesome games.

I hope he takes a look at Dustforce if he's talking about underrated platformers

The first game tests your most fundamental skills of platforming, while the newer ones have built off the foundation and added fun mechanics like climbing on the green walls, collecting hidden puzzle pieces, vehicles, varying boss battles, and so much more. The scenery is amazing too with the some levels in tropical freeze feeling like planned out special levels where an artist pitched a theme and created it with perfection.
I loved returns on the 3ds. Didn't play tropical freeze hopefully it gets a switch port
This is a great video but it really irked me that he called things that are not game mechanics, mechanics. The definition of a game mechanic is specifically the things that the player can do, not elements of the environment around them or the ways those mechanics interact with other game elements. He should really be discussing how the elements of each level allow the mechanics given to the player to evolve into complex interplay.
Great video. Personally hoping Retro's new project is DKCR3, now that we know they're not doing Metroid. Feels like a better fit for them anyway, since most of the people who made the Prime trilogy left the studio after finishing Corruption. And for the love of Kong, please bring the Kremlings back this time!

Reminder that Donkey Kong Country Returns 3DS is only $20 or less for those who haven't played it.
Their new game is science fiction related.
It's F-Zero, duh.

I still don't get how Mario games get away with 10:40
