Cee Lo Green's small change to the lyrics to John Lennon's song "Imagine" is causing a very big uproar.
Charged with singing Lennon's famous solo-era tune on NBC's New Year's Eve show shortly before the ball dropped in Times Square , Green changed the lyrics from "Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too" to "Nothing to kill or die for, And all religion's true."
The change didn't go unnoticed, and to preempt criticism, he soon tweeted, "Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that's all."
That did little to comfort angered Lennon fans, who lashed out over Twitter. Watch the performance below (starting around 4:00) and then read the angry exchanges over Twitter.
incoming internet atheist rage rampage
Really people? This is stupid.
Stupid of him to change it, stupid of people to get mad about it.
It makes sense, but they could have picked a different song if they were worried about causing a shit storm.

But it shits on the songs message. No religion = no retarded conflicts over them etc.
hahaha
But it shits on the songs message.
Not really..
But it shits on the songs message.
Well the title is called imagine...
cee lo green is cool. i think his reason for changing the lyric is a pretty good one.
Not really..
A little. I'm just saying not only internet baby atheist kids can get mad over it.
wasn't that like one of the big points of the song or something.
to stop fighting over beliefs and shit like that. saying all religions true doesn't have the same effect.
i still love the song though and cee lo had a good reason i guess.
No religion = no retarded conflicts over them etc.
But if all religion's true then who would start conflict over them..?
I don't care about what he changed it to, I just think that if you're gonna sing someone else's song (especially John fucking Lennon), you can at least have the decency not to change the lyrics.
But if all religion's true then who would start conflict over them..?
Them over their clashing ideologies.
I'm not even offended because I'm atheist.
I'm offended because I'm OCD about lyrics.
But it shits on the songs message. No religion = no retarded conflicts over them etc.
Plus, it makes it so it doesn't even make sense. "All religion is true"? Okay, so is it monotheism or polytheism? Which Abrahamic interpretation is right? Is there an afterlife or reincarnation? What about Xenu?
Honestly, though, when that happened, I just facepalmed and said "He fucked up the lyrics."
I'm more offended at that 'rapper' before him that was basically just talking with some guy making funny sounds in the background.

if anything it has a better effect. better for people to have their own personal beliefs but to respect everyone elses ones too than for noone to have any belief in anything.

shitloads of people change lyrics when they cover songs.

You're also ignoring the fact that the past couple of wars weren't even based on religion.
Vietnam: North trying to take out the south
World War 2: Nazis try to invade other places, attacking Jews
World War 1: Same as above, less Jew hate though
Cold war: Political Shitstorm
Middle East war (war on terrorism): Rebel forces want our shit outta their country.
That's all i'm going to say about it.
If all religion were true, would the Gods have a huge fight?

didn't you read what he said about it? he's not saying all religion is literally true. he's saying all religions true because all people are able to believe what they want
He maintained a peaceful message and you can hardly even tell. People need to chill out.

You're "Obsessive compulsive disorder" about lyrics?
But it shits on the songs message. No religion = no retarded conflicts over them etc.
Shits on the message of the song? I have to say it further reinforces the message, promoting a world where everyone hold their own beliefs and respect those of others.

World war 1 started for a lot of different reasons. One of them being the french being buttmad about losing territory in the franco prussian war, the ottomans being attacked by the brits, serbia, etc. You can't just point at a single country and blame them for it.

The Nazis didn't form until after WW1.
But yeah. WW1 was about nationalism and political alliance chain reaction shitstorm.
By the way, Political Alliance Chain Reaction Shitstorm would be a great name for a rock band.

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"
He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!"
Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.
If all religions were true there would still be those who denied the truth of other religions and caused wars.
oh wow I made the mistake of reading the comments
I seriously hope these people don't represent the future of mankind

"Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that's all."
he didn't LITERALLY mean that all religion is true. he is imagining a world where everybody can believe in what they want. jeez
This isn't enough of a change to get upset over.
I respect what he meant when he changed the lyrics. Athiest-Hatebomb inbound.
