I never found Counter-Strike to be a game that really needs a new version. There's just not a lot of room to expand on other then some new weapons and new maps. An expansion pack would be a much better deal, maybe $1 DLC?
I find internet petitions pretty stupid.
If they ever add anything new to the Counter-Strike formula (new weapons, attributes, equips) everyone will rage for multiple reasons and just go back to CS:S or CS 1.6 because it's more 'balanced'
Therefore a new version is not needed, even if it is something as small as a graphical update, people will still whinge
A CS game on the L4D2 Source Engine? Somebody better fucking start making nightmaps, because that engine is sexy!
CS is Valves bastard child.
The Counter-Strike series is one of Valve's bigger profit.
Imagine Counter-Strike using one of the newer engines (CryEngine 2/3, UE3, Dunia Engine, IW4 etc.)

If they are making CSS2, I hope they make the playercap bigger and make it so i win every round and and theres sufr maps there XD
I used to like CSS, but that was when it was just me and my friends having fun. After they stopped playing I went to pub matches... Everyone is horrible in that game. You always hear "Noob!" "You suck faggot!" "Gay!" "I'm pwning you nubs!"
Seriously, it's filled with idiots. The only time I can have fun is with bots, and even then that gets old.
Maybe if they do make CSS2 they completely turn that around by changing things up a lot.

I just recently bought it and I thought it didnt need updating at all. it seems fine to me.

Why? It's a good way to track how many people would actually support the given idea. Of course they have to be taken more more something informative, rather than decisive.
I don't really see why people hate them. It's not like they have to do something, but they give some statistics about how many people support it.

It is. Even through you don't know the complete pool of people choosing between signing and not signing, you can estimate that. It's not precise, but can be spread much more easily than real more-point question, where you know the exact number of participants.
All CS:S needs is moving to the new engine becuase the old one is bad and doesn't register hits correctly.

I don't think they could add much to CSS, but maybe a small graphics and hit detection update is in order. Other than that, it's still a pretty good old game, the replay value kept up by mods such as Zombie Escape.
Christ at least wait for Episode 3!
