Man shot dead for eating popcorn too loudly in a theatre
Police said they had arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of shooting a 42-year-old fellow audience member who later died of his wounds.
The conflict took place as the credits rolled during a screen of the Oscar-nominated film "Black Swan", according to police in the Baltic state.
Witnesses told the Latvian news agency Leta that it arose over how loudly the deceased man was eating his popcorn.
Gun-crime is relatively rare in Latvia, a European Union nation of 2.2 million.
The shooting occurred on Saturday evening in the central multiplex cinema in the Latvian capital, Riga, at the end of the psychological thriller about a ballet dancer who loses her mind succumbing to pressure to perform
Black Swan was a pretty good movie though
"God, that man is chewing so loud. I better shoot him when the credits roll" :downs:
I've seen sillier reasons for people shooting other people.
This one is still really silly though. :frown:
Damn that's a silly reason to kill someone. To the guy who forgot to turn his phone off? TORTURE HIM!
There's also some puns to be made here but I can't think of any, hopefully something will pop into my head.
You stay classy, Latvia.
Must have been a good show for the audience.
What the hell is wrong with people today?

I guess the shooters nerves were shot after realizing the similarity between some of the themes of the film
who loses her mind succumbing to pressure to perform
and himself, and due to being psychologically chewed out by the film, simply popped.
My country, heard about this on the radio while driving somewhere, the shooter called the ambulance him self, witneses say the shooter seemed like a nice smart guy, also witneses that the victim kinda had it comming, they were all annoyed by him. He was asked not to be so loud.

That's a stupid thing to say.
Should I be scared to go to a theatre because someone just might shoot my ass if I farted by accident?

Thank you for that enlightening comment.

I fully expected this to have taken place in America.

oh yeah, my motherland, become famous :airquote:
The shooter didnt even try to get away, also the victime was asked to be more quiet. Shooter also had permision to own a gun he actualy had permisions to own 3 guns. The shooter is also a lawyer, the victim had an underage daughter with him, he was a fater of 4 children. Also "he had it coming" wasnt meant as he was totaly going to get shot.

So let me get this straight....a zombie was eating popcorn in the cinema, and ended up getting shot?

He lacked the licence to kill.

Bad puns are expected to provide insight?
6th toe isn't the only thing wrong with some latvians...

This reminds me of that scene from Scary Movie where that chick was talking loudly on the phone in the theater and they all started stabbing her to death.
Silly reason though.

Called it as soon as I saw the thread title. I was wrong, apparently.

I think we should poison this one.
:downsrim:
Ironically a gun is noisier than popcorn
Feel like we don't know the entire story.
On the one hand, I kinda sympathize with the shooter because I, like him, hate noisy people at the cinemas. OTOH, I wouldn't go as far as shooting the guy/guys.

You should have seen the way he was eating that popcorn! He could have eaten one of the moviegoers next!
