When it comes to wars, there was never a war like WWII. It seemed time stopped for those years. So many stories, so many horrific events, very interesting. I love learning about World War II. From peoples personal stories to well known ones such as the diary of anne frank. I also love looking at old film, and I have found a youtube channel dedicated to uploading color film from that timeframe, heres a link. http://www.youtube.com/user/UnknownWW2InColor I highly suggest you check it out, a lot of great stuff there. Sorry I don't have much for a thread, but hey, it is a chat thread.
Aw, holy shit. I'm obsessed with World War II so I just about jizzed myself when I saw this thread.
I love WW2 in color, by the way. :buddy:

A second channel of theirs with more videos
I love it too!
This thread needs more armor.
Especially Panthers :q:
Churchill tanks were the amazing. basically every world war 2 tank was amazing.
Churchill tanks were the amazing. basically every world war 2 tank was amazing.
Not really, Churchills weren't that amazing.
They were quite slow, undergunned, heavy and underarmored. They were a pretty good platform for special purpose tanks like mine rollers and AVREs though :buddy:
Now to start a debate (or a flamewar...) which tank influenced post-war designs the most, Panther or T-34?
I love this topic.
Nazi weapons were fucking awesome, STG44, Nebelwerfer, Super-heavy tanks fuck yeah!

Giant picture, but oh god :v:

USSR > Rest of the world
The weapons in WW2 are quite epic somehow, the artillery like Nebelwerfer, Stuka, Priest and the Howtizers. Tanks of German especially Panther and Tiger (why they named like that) are pretty cool and powerful too, compared to M10.
I think in terms of damage Panther has more compared to T34, though.

Wrong thread, rate me boxes

Panther, they were more produced and were used alot more. the T-34 had a huge impact by all means. but there were just alot more panthers. and their incredible armor design really showed engineering advances

Fucking Same.
I think I'm a world war 2 savant haha. I have to say, the WW2 in color show is one of my favorite shows right now. They really did a good job adding color and they actually structured the episodes well.
I've been a WWII history buff, actually mil history in general, for as long as I can remember.
Oddly enough, I only have two WWII vets in my family, never met either. One was a female Navy petty officer who served stateside, the other was a Canadian artilleryman who served from Normandy to the end of the war and saw heavy combat. His father fought in the trenches in the Great War and his son, my favorite uncle, was an Army engineer in Vietnam. But anyway, I love WWII militaria, especially weapons. Got an old Garand bayonet, M1 helmet, Ike jacket... one of these days I'm gonna bite the bullet and pick up an M1 carbine when I can find a good one on sale at Big 5. Got a bunch of books, mostly about Paratoopers (Band of Brothers, etc). However most of my books, movies, military surplus gear is Vietnam-era (including multiple complete uniforms) or present day US Army issue.
too many people are obsessed with only 2 things when it comes to ww2, weapons and the factions in general. i myself am one for the political side of ww2.

What if the Nazis would actually completed this shit, I bet the world would be so very different now, or at least Europe.

I doubt it because bigger isn't always better. Projects like the Ratte and Maus would be a logistic nightmare. Slow, impossible to cross bridges, time-consuming to maintain and vulnerable to air attacks. These projects where only developed because Hitler was narrow minded and wanted bigger things. The time and resources spend would have been better spend to produce Panthers.

They did. Not in time for the invasion of France though. Gustav was used under operation Barbarossa. It was just completely impractical. They weighed nearly 1370 tons and they needed a crew of 250 to assemble the gun, 2,500 to lay track and dig embankments and 2 Flak battalions to protect the gun from air attack. It would only shoot about 45 km too. Something way more practical and deadly were the V-2 rockets.
The only difference you'd see in Europe would be train tracks everywhere :v:
V2 rockets had very little explosive charge and were very inaccurate, the only thing they had for them was range. They weren't deadly at all, propaganda made them look like this.

Wait what, are you saying the Panther was produced more than the T-34?

Me too, man. I wish people would start talking about the Vichy Government.
Love WWII ever since i heard about it as a kid always looked back to it for really everything it changed post war and noticed it would have never existed if it wasn't for the americans involvement in WWI, if they didnt get involved the stalemate that was still going on in europe during that time would have most likely ended in better terms instead of the harsh and brutal Versailles treaty, which is one of the obvious sources for hilter rise to power.
but other than that, subscribe to WWIIHISTORY magazine always fun stuff in there =D
The PPSH41 was chambered in 7.62, correct?
If so, that gun must have wighed more than a Garand.

Kind of the uploader to add the eerie music just in case anybody had forgotten that the Nazis were the bad guys.
