I want a mini cactus to sit on my desk at work that looks like any of theses: I was looking at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cactus-Finest-Mix-25-Seeds/dp/B004HMX8AG/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1307470816&sr=8-15 but other products say about having special cactus soil with silica sand and shit in it. I just want a mini cactus in a pot :saddowns: I'm in the UK and don't mind spending up to a tenner or something.
It'll die on your desk, unless your desk is outside, I think it will stay alive. Also if your desk is a window sill then it could sit there. Anyways, here: http://www.gardenlife.com/store/Cactaceae-Cleistocactus-strausii.html
It'll stay alive if you keep a heat lamp on it. I've got three cacti growing inside. Also, you can easily buy small cacti at Home Depot. The only thing I don't like about them is the fake flowers they glue to the cacti. One of mine has a bald spot with missing spines because of them.
You can get those at pretty much any garden centre, at least in Britain anyway.

ikea
ikea
IKEA does indeed have mini cactus plants. I have two that I bought roughly 8 years ago. They're still alive. The only thing I've done is moving them to a little bit larger pot.

can't be unseen! Also, go to your garden store and look in their trash - they always throw tiny cactii out, I mean really realy tiny. I have two that started at like 1cm and now they're 6 inches. :3
I've bought some cactus seeds too, mixed variety. Apparently the way to go is to mix 1 part potting soil with 1 part sand, and throw in some gravel. Will post how I get on.
