Alright, facepunch, I'm confused. BP is a British company, British Petroleum. BP is affiliated with the US in a strictly business fashion; they provide some of our oil. One of their drills blew. So why is America going to regulate how BP cleans it up, pay for some of it, possibly impose new regulations, etc. when this has nothing to do with America or one of her companies?
BP is a global company and operates within our county.
they are harming the environment and that effects everyone.
But can American regulations really affect them? Considering they're a foreign country operating mainly outside the US, is there really anything the US can do? Then why don't Caribbean countries/Britain/Everyone pay for it?

British Petroleum was the old name before they internationalized.
http://aquaculture.noaa.gov/pdf/20_eezmap.pdf it's technically international waters, but they're ours for economic purposes
-snip- suppose I'm wrong.
BP = Beyond Petroleum [editline]06:23PM[/editline] it used to be British Petroleum
I don't think there are any international waters in the Gulf, are there?
America might as well be the global dictator. If something happens that has anything to do with us or a country that we have even spoken to we want to control it. America wants to control everything and because this has washed up on our beaches the public is supporting the take over of the regulations. When the American public supports something we get the job done no matter what. Take for example WWII. Germans piss U.S. civilians off and we enter the war. Granted we barely won that war but we still got the job done and we were still new at that point. Second example Vietnam. The public didn't support that war or the troops and look what happened, we got our asses handed to us. Without the support the action goes (usually) with the support the action is completely American controlled. (In case you are wondering I am an American but I do not have a very high opinion of this or any other political establishment.)

Yes America has some 'global police' notions, but not nearly as much as you are saying, Also, wtf? That is why we got into WWII. FDR sided with the British simply because he liked the British more. Destroyer Bases Deal, the three neutrality acts? Also, what. How would public support have shifted the outcome of Vietnam? You do realize more than half the country supported Nam up until its last month?

Government is created so that those who know how to speak in a fancy way can dictate what others do.
Also, what. How would public support have shifted the outcome of Vietnam? You do realize more than half the country supported Nam up until its last month?
Actually, the Tet Offensive of early 1968 was what turned public opinion overwhelmingly against the war.
