Mr Poroshenko, who is to be inaugurated on Saturday, said he expected to be recognised soon by Moscow and that talks would start on Sunday. Mr Putin welcomed Kiev's approach, but said an immediate ceasefire was needed before negotiation began. The two men met on the sidelines of D-Day commemorations in Normandy, France. This was their first meeting since Mr Poroshenko's election in May. ... Mr Putin and Mr Poroshenko, along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, spoke for about 15 minutes, after a photograph of world leaders was taken and before a lunch hosted by French President Francois Hollande. "Naturally, the overall tone of the meeting was very tense. However, the positive aspect of the meeting is that dialogue has at last started. I can say now that negotiations are starting," Mr Poroshenko told reporters. He added that he expected a statement from Russia on the recognition of the presidential election "in the near future" and that the initial phase of negotiations would take place on 8 June. He said he had asked for the cancellation of the Russian parliament's authorisation of the deployment of troops in Ukraine. Mr Putin said he liked Mr Poroshenko's approach but would wait to see what he could deliver.
He looks like he's worried Putin might stab him.
Doesn't Poroshenko kind of have more pressing concerns than attending a ceremony like that? I know it was an important date and all, but his country is on the very edge of civil war, with blood spilled already.
He looks like he's worried Putin might stab him.
Looks more to me like he just wants Putin to fuck off.
Did he give him his usual thumbs up like he did to those feminists that attacked him the other time?
Looks more to me like he just wants Putin to fuck off.
Agreed. I see more of a "What's this piece of shit doing over here?" grimace.

It's like when people bitch about Obama's vacation, the situation room goes with them. They still have to give orders and keep on top of everything. And even if they didn't, it's a single ceremony. It's not like the president is invested 24/7.

I like how the biggest meeting with Putin is on the D-Day remembering, that irony.
I like how the biggest meeting with Putin is on the D-Day remembering, that irony.
do you even know what irony is
do you even know what irony is
it's what turns metal red
so it's not a vacation just a fancy coffee break.?
That's a really accurate way to describe it. Actually, it'd be better to say you're at work and while you're at work you watch a youtube video as you do whatever cubicle shit you normally do. There's nothing wrong with it and it's the only thing that keeps you sane but you're on the clock and you'll be vilified by everybody if you're caught.
do you even know what irony is
It's the taste in my mouth when Billy hits me.

[editline]7th June 2014[/editline] Or maybe he was just drunk.
do you even know what irony is
This post for example.
This post for example.
I'd point out the irony of your post but, you know... That would be too recursive for my taste.
I really don't think that was the right time or place to be talking about the Ukraine incident.
yay let's discuss the picture cherrypicked from the 1200 pictures taken at that event and base our impressions of how the people depicted treat each other on it
I agree. Let's discuss this picture now
Okay, it's out of my system now.
Looks like a threat like that would be difficult to swallow! Because it's like, threatening him, with a, like, beer bottle and stuff? And you swallow liquid and stuff?

Judging from his expression, Poroshenko found puzzles inside.
