A homeless man was found with a cache of fully-operational submachine guns, handguns and ammunition stashed at a Los Angeles-area encampment, officials said Wednesday.
Richard Cunningham, 59, was arrested for "numerous weapons violations" after the officers discovered the guns in Harbor City, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Really hope they don't destroy these historical weapons.

Just because there are others doesn't mean these should be destroyed.
Either way though, he was a felon and should not have had them.

Why should they be preserved? The Sten and the grease gun were mass produced, cheap weapons, and there's surely a plethora that are in better condition. I don't understand this gun fetishism. If it was a rare weapon, sure, but these are not exactly rare...

pretty much, why anyone would want to voluntarily hold a grease gun is beyond me
Where do you see a grease gun?
Ok, since when is a Samopal 26 a "World War II-era" gun? This thing came in 1952 and was mass produced.. and this is no way a real one. It's 99,99% certain it's one made in the US with parts kits. No "historical value" being ruined here.
it looks a lot like a grease gun from that view, its easy to mistake it for an grease gun if you don't really see the sa26 a lot

What the fuck is with that giant ass can thing on the front of the gun???
Forgive me, my knowledge of guns is pretty much abysmal but that thing looks strange as hell and has me wondering.

The weapon on the bottom is not a grease gun, it's an Sa vz. 23, a Czech subgun from which the uzi was plagiarized. I'm not sure if there are any transferable ones in the country right now but a quick search showed no results. By far not a common weapon in the United States, but a historically significant design.

It couldn't hurt for them to be donated to a re-enactment society or something of the sort.

It's a suppressor (silencer).
There have been a lot of semi ones made from kits, though.
This one is a 26 (magwell/grip slanted forward)
Don't know much about them.
Would probably be illegal regardless since it's an SBR if anything. Something tells me you can't do an NFA transfer if you don't have a place of residence.
Is that a fucking Ruger MK1 with an AR flash hider on it?
These are the true weapons of Fallout.

A supressor that looks like its made from a small propane tank (?)

My mistake, it looked a lot like a grease gun at first.

That's true, something I hadn't considered.

I don't give a shit if there's still hundreds of thousands of Sten guns floating around. They're not making any more, they're a piece of history, for fuck's sake stop melting them down because some dumbass hobo had them illegally.

People with your mindset is why historical items like that get rare in the first place.
Oh please, get over yourself and get over your "historical weapons."
Still stupid to just destroy it, it would be better to sell it. (also, god damn rating system in SH, I can't unrate)
So then auction it off.

Maybe they don't need to be melted down, but they should at least have the barrels cemented. I don't think active, unregistered submachineguns should be floating around like that. Maybe give them to a reenactment society like GordonZombie said, or to a props company, but the cries for "it belongs in a museum!" are senseless, ill-founded, and dumb.

I think they should be rare. I'd rather they were rare than so commonplace that they wind up in the black market as unregistered firearms.

Most of the Stens you find on Gb are going to be made from chopped kits with new parts and receivers, legit Stens aren't going to be in your average persons collection. Same thing for that Czech subgun.

Or just register it with the BATFE and let the local PD sell it and use the funds towards their budget. The Hughes amendment is still a thing but it's not like the amount of registered class 3's hasn't gone up or anything.

Class 3's don't just become unregistered because they get lost or stolen. And for the record, the number of people murdered by REGISTERED fully automatics is less than 5 last I checked. Murders with rifles are rare, murders with fully automatic ones are even rarer.

Do there really need to be more than a few "legit" Stens in a few gun museums around the world?

Maybe in our country. Had you considered certain areas of Mexico, South America, Africa, and the Middle East?

We should melt down cars that are possessed illegally or involved in crimes..
What is the point of melting it down when you can easily sell it?

My concern is that some random homeless dude wound up with fully functional submachine guns and a bunch of ammunition. If some homeless dude managed to get his hands on these, think about who else is. That's fucking scary. Especially when you consider areas of the world where regulations and policing are lax or nonexistant, due to whatever factors. The less of these for sale, the better, in my honest opinion.

Because cars aren't inherently designed for killing people.

No, but they sure as fuck do a pretty good job of it, a better job than guns.
No, but they sure as fuck do a pretty good job of it, a better job than guns.
Be that as it may, I'm sure there's a lot more deliberate murders worldwide due to firearms than deliberate murders due to cars. Cars are a hell of a lot more useful than guns, too.

Same can be said about guns, many people hunt with them - that in return fills there freezers with meat so they can eat for the year or whatnot. Guns are also used for recreation. So who really fucking cares? The cops got the gun from the guy before he could do anything, so you can go what if and be mellow dramatic all you want it does not change that NOTHING HAPPENED. What about everyone else? Lets be freaked out and scared because of what other people "might" do. Talk about fucking dramatic.
Cars are not designed to kill people but they do, accidental deaths are higher then gun related deaths. Even then cars have been used in the commission of crimes, murders, assaults, kidnappings ,etc.
Be that as it may, I'm sure there's a lot more deliberate murders worldwide due to firearms than deliberate murders due to cars. Cars are a hell of a lot more useful than guns, too.
What is the point of this? Your being dramatic for what purpose? The guy was caught and is in jail. No where does it say his intentions for owning the guns or his plans with them. It is likely had them for a while and hasn't done anything with them. What does the rest of the world have to do with LA? Are lax gun policies around the world going to affect the US? No.
Hell this homeless dude likely had them for protection and it does not even state what is felony is, which could be anything.
As someone who loves guns I don't care what happens to that Sten because they're just simple tube guns anyone can make and it wouldn't even surprise me if the guy did make the Sten himself.

You don't need automatics or submachineguns to fucking hunt. I don't really care if people want bolt actions or semi automatics for hunting, or for sport. I don't want people to have automatics. I also don't see the point in modifying submachineguns to be semiautomatics, either. Nobody needs a submachinegun. Nobody needs 6 guns, either. Dramatic. You're the one putting up strawmen.
Cars are not designed to kill people but they do, accidental deaths are higher then gun related deaths. Even then cars have been used in the commission of crimes, murders, assaults, kidnappings ,etc.
Never contested this. I still believe cars are more useful than firearms, though.

Because it's a homeless guy with six guns! How'd he get them? Where did the money come from? Who did he get in contact with to get these things? How did he get these things? Are these not valid questions? This deserves looking into. If I'm being dramatic about it, then so is the fucking police.
What does the rest of the world have to do with LA? Are lax gun policies around the world going to affect the US? No.
If people are selling automatic weapons to homeless people in LA, they're selling automatic weapons to other people in other parts of the world. The US isn't the only country that matters.
Hell this homeless dude likely had them for protection and it does not even state what is felony is, which could be anything.
Six guns for "protection." Lmfao. The dude is homeless, what is he protecting with six fucking guns? Two of which are automatics? I could see that he might be an enthusiast (which I'm not condoning), but it's a pretty unhealthy enthusiasm if he's putting his money into that shit instead of, you know, a home.

I don't know what you're crying about, I really don't. Automatics are rare, the fact that this guy even had em is rarer. The police are not being dramatic, they arrested the guy and he is in jail. I'm sure they're looking into it, which is fine because it is their job. Many people own more then six guns for protection? Who fucking cares? Some people own tanks and even own explosives!!!!! OH THE HUMANITY!!! Did i even say automatics are needed for hunting? No you said cars are more useful then guns, which I have a clear example why guns are just as useful. Stop trying to twist words lol.
Again you're making stupid assumptions by saying he bought them or w/e. He could have had them, people don't start off homeless most of the time. He could have had them, he could have found them, he could have been given them.
Again the world does not matter in this parcitular situation because again you're assuming that someone sold it to them which we don't know. What you think some warlord, arms dealer is peddling weapons to homeless people? Get real.
You are acting like a gigantic sissy. All your arguements are based off of stupid ass assumptions. Stop acting like a drama queen, your points and arguements are weak. Just stop. You call my arguements strawman arguements but yet I've addressed everything direcly, your the one that continues to bring up arguements that are not even in question or even being discussed. Stop trying to make this into something it isn't.
