• The US is censoring the internet by removing the domain names from the internet.

It's because of the internet censorship bill was passed not long ago.
While complex, it’s still possible for U.S. authorities and copyright groups to point at a fully-fledged BitTorrent site with a tracker and say “that’s an infringing site.” When one looks at a site which hosts torrents but operates no tracker, the finger pointing becomes quite a bit more difficult. When a site has no tracker, carries no torrents, lists no copyright works unless someone searches for them and responds just like Google, accusing it of infringement becomes somewhat of a minefield – unless you’re ICE Homeland Security Investigations that is. This morning, visitors to the Torrent-Finder.com site are greeted with an ominous graphic which indicates that ICE have seized the site’s domain. The message below is posted on the seized sites Seized Servers “My domain has been seized without any previous complaint or notice from any court!” the exasperated owner of Torrent-Finder told TorrentFreak this morning. “I firstly had DNS downtime. While I was contacting GoDaddy I noticed the DNS had changed. Godaddy had no idea what was going on and until now they do not understand the situation and they say it was totally from ICANN,” he explained. Aside from the fact that domains are being seized seemingly at will, there is a very serious problem with the action against Torrent-Finder. Not only does the site not host or even link to any torrents whatsoever, it actually only returns searches through embedded iframes which display other sites that are not under the control of the Torrent-Finder owner. Torrent-Finder remains operational through another URL, Torrent-Finder.info, so feel free to check it out for yourself. The layouts of the sites it searches are clearly visible in the results shown. Yesterday we reported that the domain of hiphop site RapGodFathers had been seized and today we can reveal that they are not on their own. Two other music sites in the same field – OnSmash.com and DaJaz1.com – have fallen to the same fate. But ICE activities don’t end there. Several other domains also appear to have been seized including 2009jerseys.com, nfljerseysupply.com, throwbackguy.com, cartoon77.com, lifetimereplicas.com, handbag9.com, handbagcom.com and dvdprostore.com. Domain seizures coming under the much debated ‘censorship bill’ COICA? Who needs it?
http://torrentfreak.com/u-s-government-seizes-bittorrent-search-engine-domain-and-more-101126/
Well shit.
Are you serious? The gist I'm getting from the vague article is they can take down entire domains now? EDIT: Yep, went over it again, that's sneaky as fuck and they shouldn't be allowed to basically abuse their own system to do this.
Oh shit. I doubt they'll do anything...
This is not cool.

Didn't a senator delay COICA? This has happened before. Sometime last year a site was seized like this. The government is taking away our rights because they are only listening to the big businesses that profit our shit economy.
[img_thumb]http://www.torrent-finder.com/IPRC_Seized_2010_11.jpg[/img_thumb]
i know that, i'm saying I doubt they'll take any sites down permanently
i know that, i'm saying I doubt they'll take any sites down permanently
We can only tell, it's a possibility, especially since they've managed to get as far as siezing it, I'm sure that they won't give it back until a massive amount of buerocratic bullshit has been fulfilled.
For some reason, this sprung to mind when I saw this article:
While I dislike pirates, this is absolutely ridiculous, too far, power abusive, probably technically illegal and so on.
It looks so fake. At least the image does.
Odd, the US government is censoring the internet. I'd expect this from the arse backwards Australian government, but not the yanks.
It's because of the internet censorship bill was passed not long ago.
It hasn't passed. [editline]26th November 2010[/editline] The bill is unrelated to this.
Can it only censor websites that are hosted in the US?
I guess this is what was meant by "change I can believe in". I believe this sucks dick.
Can it only censor websites that are hosted in the US?
ICANN, which controls .com, .edu, .gov, .int, .mil, .net, and .org, is basically under the control of the US Government. They can take over a domain no matter where the server it points to is located.
It looks so fake. At least the image does.
It's not though, I've seen it before on sites.
America thinks they own the world again.
"Rights? Never heard of em!"
[img_thumb]http://www.torrent-finder.com/IPRC_Seized_2010_11.jpg[/img_thumb]
"your site just got ~ICE'd~" :iceburn:
[img_thumb]http://www.torrent-finder.com/IPRC_Seized_2010_11.jpg[/img_thumb]
Homeland security? The fuck does torrents have to do with security for the homeland?
America thinks they own the world again.
Another wonderful post by our fellow Australian Liberal, Best4bond [editline]27th November 2010[/editline]
Homeland security? The fuck does torrents have to do with security for the homeland?
ICE, Immigrations Customs Enforcement is part of the Dept Homeland Security.
America thinks they own the world again.
are you mad?
Still, it makes no sense. Torrents don't threaten homeland security.
Torrent-Finder.com works for me, is that because I'm not in the US?
Torrent-Finder.com works for me, is that because I'm not in the US?
I'm guessing you didn't actually check what is on the website? [editline]27th November 2010[/editline]
Still, it makes no sense. Torrents don't threaten homeland security.
Customs has to deal with international copyright infringement.
In Sweden the government can't censor anything :smugdog:
America: Land of the free!
are you mad?
Yes i am, America only has power because they got them selfs in at the right time in the right places. If Japan and Australia decide to kick out America, They would have no stronghold in South East Asia Hell, Even if just Japan did it, America would be in trouble.
