Warn young children about pornography, say headteachers.
Young children should hear about the dangers of pornography as soon as they have access to the internet, leading head teachers say.
General secretary Russell Hobby said "the conversation should start" when children started going online.
But he stressed this was not about showing pornography in class.
"Children as young as three - nursery age children - access computers. If they see something that shouldn't be there, they should know to go and tell an adult."
An independent survey of 1,009 parents for the NAHT suggested 83% felt pupils should learn about the dangers of pornography in sex education lessons.
The NAHT said the issue was increasingly troubling to teachers and heads as they grapple with the impact of pornography on pupils' self-image and their perceptions of sexuality.
"There is no place for explicit materials in the classroom or school, even in the course of teaching about their dangers, but many young people are exposed to such materials on the internet and phones.
"In the face of this, young people need to know how to cope with and avoid these distorted views of relationships."
Nine out of 10 [of those asked by the NAHT] felt all equipment allowing internet access should have a default block on pornographic websites.

There's no space in this world for prudishness.
Teenagers will always look at porn; that's life. I have a teenage son, and he looks at porn (Not figured out clearing history yet!). It doesn't bother me to be honest. If he can get his kicks watching other people at it, he can't be getting someone pregnant or catching an STI.
I'd be far more woried if he were watching ultra-violence.

From memories of my own youth, telling a child not to do something is pretty much a surefire way of making sure they do it at the first available opportunity.
QUICK, SOMEONE TRACK THIS BOY DOWN AND SAVE HIM FROM FUTURE EMBARASSMENT
I really don't get what's so wrong with teens looking at porn myself
I dont get what is wrong about children looking at porn. They are just looking at one of the most natural acts a human can do. I guess I could agree if they would be looking at elf-amputee-scat-porn, but that is not the case in this article.

The title clearly states young childen. I'm not in any way shape or form prudent but kids < ~12 really shouldn't be watching porn.

Looking at porn automatically turns you into gay transexual zoophiliac pedophile.
And in cases of severe exposition, it can lead to pre-teen pregnancy.
In males and females alike.

Society is just overly sensitive I guess, even though the people saying this probably did the same when they were young aswell. Porn didn't start existing when the generation of the 2000's was born like they seem to act. perfectly natural as you say. "oh no someone think of the childrennnn"
When I was three years old, I saw a porn mag's cover through screen of a newspaper stall.
From that day I craved for nothing but cock.
Rather than make it out to be a 'danger' they should focus on how the pornography industry plays upon sexual ideals and how not to buy into it too much

True, I started (secretly from my parents obviously) watching porn when I was around 7 because I was curious as to why my dick got hard when I saw naked ladies :v:
It all comes at different ages though so you can never really tell when kids should or should not start looking at porn

The construct of "purity" is what is causing it.

This is not the conclusion they are making. Pornography presents an entirely fictional and highly aestheticised version of sex which can quite possible cause people to think they are abnormal if no-ones told them that its all fake as all hell

Solution:
Provide kids with natural realistic and balanced porn from the age of 5.
"Freddy's First Wank"
5 is way to early to be introducing notions of pornography
Oh my god, there are no dangers of porn. You watch it and you jerk off, it's that simple. Masturbation is one of the few things in life that literally has no downsides whatsoever.
I discovered porn when I was around 12, now I shoot heroin in public bathrooms, I wish they saved me.

Not really. A lot of people get very wrong expectations of what sex is because the only exposure they had to the subject is porn. Probably one of the reasons why abstinence only education fails so bad.
Welp while I think its dumb to try to shield 12 year olds from porn, there is a growing epidemic of porn addiction among young males, and its mostly due to the ease of access, and also of course because everyone scoffed at the idea that too much sexual stimulation on a regular basis could be a bad thing.
There is a great TED talk on the issue backed up by a fairly solid base of research and literature.
So while we like to be all liberal and basically say who cares a lot on here, I do think as a parent you should bring some measure of control over what your child is exposed to and at what stages of their life.

There really is too much of a good thing, and for young men it can quite easily and unknowingly become too much of a good thing because you've got such an abundance of it within a few clicks.

It's true that there are no immediate dangers of porn. However there are some long term psychological effects. Most people who get them don't really notice them until they're nearing 18 though, or even later. It also differs a lot in how much people can control themselves. If you can't control it, it can become an addiction and make your life much worse. Like the man in the video above said, it's really hard to measure since porn usage is so common. There are, however, examples of people who have become addicted to porn and made it ruin their life.
Warning them is just like, 'hey kids, look! Porn!'.
That's what I'm thinking, though. It's better not to tell them about it.
I really don't get what's so wrong with teens looking at porn myself
It's not wrong. They just need to be told about the dangers of looking at only porn all day, and that it has little to do with real, everyday sexuality, and to exercise caution. Otherwise you end up with the average deviantart user and/or porn site commenter. And nobody wants their child to become THAT.
For the record here, I'm asexual so porn is merely a curiosity for me but uh...
Why the fuck are people afraid of porn? What is it going to do to you?
"Oh no! I saw people having sex! My 8 year old life is ruined forever!"
People are dumb.
Speaking of porn, what the fuck is so great about it?
Can't you just save the bandwidth and use your imagination?

Because porn is fake as all hell, and to a young mind who doesn't know shit about sexuality can give an entirely false impression of how sex is supposed to be, as well as confidence issues because people in porn are usually way bigger than average and last impossibly long.
Young children should hear about the dangers of pornography as soon as they have access to the internet, leading head teachers say.

just like telling them of the "dangers" of weed, once they find out they were fucking lying and there is NO danger, they're going to get into it.
There is no DANGER to porn, fucking stop it, Jesus Christ.
There's no space in this world for prudishness.
Yes. Because it's stupid Victorian shit. Pushing kids into naivety at the cost for being confused and misinformed later.
weed
NO danger
That's debatable.
That's debatable.
Yeah, but that's because you were inhaling burnt plant matter, not an effect by the weed itself. Vape or bake and there's literally zero risk.
That's debatable.
Yeah If you're really young or use it constantly, but no, theres no danger, thats stupid
lets please not make a weed debate out of this. The point is, the teachers say weed will give you diseases / fuck your brain, or lead you to have 16 kids and a meth addiction thats all bullshit.
If you instead were honest about porn when the time is right, as well as weed, you won't get the same issues.
The fakeness to which porn abides seems to be lost on a lot of you. It's not about teaching kids that not every one gets chained to the wall in gimp masks, it's about how they'll grow up thinking sex/sexuality is supposed to be.
Case in point; pubic hair. Before porn was widely available and cheap everyone had it and no one cared because it was normal. Now, pretty much everyone does something to manage it and especially women, a lot of whom are embarassed by having any at all. Obviously shaved wasn't always the most attractive option otherwise this wouldn't be a new phenomenon so why did this trend start in the first place?
Camera angles and lighting.
Attitudes to sex are so victorian and weird that no one talks about it so when your only introduction to it is porn what else are you supposed to think is normal?
