What??? Where the fuck did this come from!?
THIS should have been at E3. Still glad its coming though.
Oh my god
incredibly hyped, lets hope microsoft doesn't blow it with this one
I'll hold my excitement for after gameplay is shown
Relic? Oh boy, DOW3 wasn't too good from what i hear. Cautiously optimistic. [editline]21st August 2017[/editline] I wonder what period they're doing
So will they be following the original plan of having this be through the world wars?
This announcement came completely out of left field. I imagine [sp](if done right)[/sp] it'll be good fun but I doubt it will revive the genre. Why did they announce AoE1 HD at E3 and not this? Should've been the other way around?
Relic is making it so expect squad based tactics with barely any building.
oh shiiiiiiit, and it took only 12 years
Relic is making it so expect squad based tactics with barely any building.
That's the antithesis of Age of Empires, I don't think they're THAT stupid.
Wololo!
good fucking lord please don't be like civ 6's artstyle
No fuckin way. I've just got back into Age of Empires 2 playing it like every night like I did when I was a kid, wow I'm excited. After Ensemble Studios closed I lost hope of ever getting a sequel. :excited: [editline]21st August 2017[/editline]
good fucking lord please don't be like civ 6's artstyle
There was an age of empires on DS or something that had an annoying cartoony art style that sucked so it's not impossible. [editline]3[/editline] Wait I think that was Age of Empires Onine which also sucked.
hello childhood I really hope its good
Looks like the Iron Age, Medieval Times and colonial era by the looks of it.
All stuff covered by previous games, makes me wonder if they're doing the Battlefront thing and making one big game with a bunch of eras in it. Maybe not?
they could do that, or a ww1-ish setting, which could explain relic. could turn it into a pseudo-coh style game, but that would be kinda weird. They're also putting out definitive editions (hd-ifying?) of aoe 2 and aoe 3, which is also weird since aoe 2 already has an 'hd' version on steam.
i want to be pessimistic yet i am hard nonetheless
Ah, Age of Empires, the series I always used to play without having a fucking clue how to actually win. As a kid, it was pretty much just a sandbox of neat music, funny sounds and cool animation
That's the antithesis of Age of Empires, I don't think they're THAT stupid.
Aye, you can't really have Age of Empires without base-building and tech levels. And of course, one must never forget that classic, all-surmounting incantation:

Just to let everyone know, AoE 2 & 3 will also get a definitive edition Timestamp : https://youtu.be/8nBZO7WTSsI?t=5016
they want the complete package up on the windows store and the "definitive" edition sounds better then HD collection to customers.
Definitive Edition isn't just HD. The HD edition was just a quality of life improvement patch for modern machines, with some DLC and balancing changes and some minor visual improvements for the Age of Mythology. Definitive Edition is what HD should have been, redone sprite, texture, and sound assets for Age 2, and I imagine new textures and models for Age 3, as well as the HD improvements. A complete visual overhaul, and hopefully free for HD owners. I don't expect them to charge for Definitive if you own HD, but who knows. (They might have mentioned it in the live stream, I didn't watch all the way)
I'm extremely skeptical. I played AoE2 way back and I'm having loads of fun with the HD edition, but I don't see how you could make anything remotely like that kind of game in this day and age. Maybe a new AoE game should be judged by its own merits but the comparison is inevitable, and AoE2 is pretty much perfect. EDIT: Also, thread music:

AoE3 was really different and was less popular because of it but it tried to do different things and I therefore really like playing both. If 4 has a lot of new stuff instead of just being another 2 then it could be cool.

Didnt watch the live stream all the way either.
also this really shows that dow 3 was rushed out the door, considering sega has done this before with rome 2 pressured to force out an unfinished game and they devote all their resources to the bigger project (aoe 4) at least thats what I hope, and that aoe 4 isn't as much of a stain on the rts genre as dow 3 is
So what time period do yall think it's going to cover? WW1 or something like 1890-1900?
