• Looking for a Musician. ( Free or very cheap ) Portal 2 Mod

Hello, I am pac0amster, the Developer of Portal 2: Abyss I am looking for talented musicians who are willing to work for free or very cheaply for helping my project. The Mod itself tell the story of a military woman who get taken by the combine soldiers. While invading the Earth, the combine has partially taken over the Aperture Science Laboratories and they started experimentation over humans there. Things went wrong and you got lose. This is the current Moddb page. http://www.moddb.com/mods/portal-2-abyss The genre of the music I am looking for vary between the themes and differents areas. It will be mostly Orchestral and Electrical music. Here's the OST of Portal 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHSX9_pLwc8 My mod is a bit more Dark than Portal 2 itself. It also apply for the songs themselves. The major part of the Mod will happen in the Underground facility. It is mainly made of "behind the scene" and destroyed environement. I am looking for songs that fit this ambience. We can talk about it on Skype, Steam or via Emails. ( See how to apply ) I am thinking about at least 10 - 15 different songs. It may be more as the development goes. This is a good opportunity if you are new or want to practice. You will be credited and you will also have rights to pretest the Mod during the development phase. Being a fan or having a good background of Portal 2 would help a lot. Thank you. How to Apply Please send me your contact information and your portfolio at pac0master@topica-rp.com Thank you.
Are you going to put it on indiegogo and offer a 1000 song OST for free to any backers? :v: On a more serious note, this does look nice, but I would warn you that it is probably unrealistic to expect 10-15 quality songs for free. I mean, I think a fair estimate is roughly 5-10 hours of work per song, which equates to around 100 hours or more - all for a portal 2 mod that has no guarantee to come out, which is project managed by the "creator" of Sinking Ship Simulator... My suggestion would be to try to get at least a little budget for the assets you are not able to create yourself, as even if you do find someone willing to help out, it's unlikely they will have much in the way of loyalty to the project and may leave you high-and-dry.
I sent an email, it's always great to have work :v:
yeah, pretty much no self respecting musician is going to work for free, all of that "do it for the exposure" shit is really damaging, and cheapens the hard work that's actually put in to making music

If money wasn't a problem, then I would make more offers. All work will be credited and I can link to anyone's soundcloud or something else. I don't really have much money, I am very low budget. If I could "pay" by advertising them, that something I can do. They will also have a Steam Key of the Mod once it is playable. I also don't give time restriction. I don't mind if they take one-two weeks to make a 5-10 minute song, If they are busy and have little free time but are willing to help me out. I would be very grateful.
I applied to work for free I don't give a shit about financial gain with music i do it entirely out of love (and hopefully in the long run, some pussy)
spoken like a true musician
Just food for thought, would you do work for free for the chance for exposure?
i couldn't give two fucks about exposure dude music in video games is for the player not for me to brag about
Just food for thought, would you do work for free for the chance for exposure?
no but im just a grumpy shit all the time. My main issue with "for the exposure" type things is that someone is making money off of your work. I'm not sure if this mod will cost anything, but I doubt it, so I have less of an issue, but if you're putting hard work for something that you're giving someone the rights to use for free, and then they make money off of it, that isn't on imo, or at least sin't something that I would be happy doing.
not everything has to hold value just by how much money is paid for it yknow
"Songs mean a lot, when songs are bought" Pretty sure he was being sarcastic here.
Instead of getting one musician, why don't you get a few together? The style differs more, and 15 songs or more for one musician is pretty heavy if (s)he lives on composing and performing. Doing 1-3 songs for free ain't that bad, I also would probably think about doing this. Sadly I don't have a portfolio or anything at this point because most of the things I end up making got scrapped and not performed. I'll think a little bit about it, probably joke a little around with some "industrial-electronic rock" and see if I can actually come up with anything worth sending towards you.

It takes weeks to put good quality songs together...not something you can just do in a day.
I sent you an email, I think it's best if you get a couple artists to contribute into it because (at least for me) 10-15 tracks is a huge thing and I'm not ready to do that for a project I'm not fully invested in. I'm still ready to whip up a couple tracks to help you out. [editline]23rd September 2014[/editline] wopw this thread is old? lmao
