MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — Moments after Fox News announced the lineup for Thursday’s Republican debate, Donald J. Trump said Tuesday it was pretty “irrevocable” that he would skip the event, which takes place just days before the Iowa caucuses. “Let’s see how much money Fox is going to make on the debate without me,” Mr. Trump said at a news conference here, where he continued to attack Megyn Kelly and the crew at Fox News, with whom he sparred at an earlier debate. “It’s time that somebody plays grown-up,” he said. Just after Mr. Trump started speaking, his campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, confirmed that he would skip Thursday’s event, saying, “He will not be participating in the Fox News debate on Thursday” and that “it’s not under negotiation.” Mr. Trump’s absence would leave the main debate stage without the candidate who leads in national polls, one who has been a big ratings draw for past debates. Mr. Trump has threatened in the past to skip debates, but his remarks Tuesday night were his strongest statement yet that he would not participate.
http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2016/01/26/donald-trump-will-skip-next-republican-debate-his-campaign-manager-says/# Potentially a smart move as this practically guarantees that he'll get tons of attention from the press (as usual), though in a logical world this could easily backfire on him (as he'd be seen as cowardly because he refuses to face Megyn Kelly of all people). Unfortunately, his supporters are fucking insane so this probably wont hurt his polling numbers.
Unfortunately, his supporters are fucking insane so this probably wont hurt his polling numbers.
Even people not his supporters might like it sense he can easily spin it to "look at how many people are so far behind in the polls" or "the media is already corrupt, I am here to talk about the issues that matter" Even that Nate silver guy isn't sure what to make of it https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/692130134363619328
I'd go Republican for some megyn kelly
“It’s time that somebody plays grown-up,” he said.
The irony its killing me my god
"It's time that somebody plays grown-up" he said
:what: This is just beyond irony Edit : ninja'd
So he's skipping out because someone he doesn't like asked him a question he doesn't like and she's not getting punished for it.
So he's skipping out because someone he doesn't like asked him a question he doesn't like and she's not getting punished for it.
He just knows he'll get more publicity this way, and that his supporters are going to love it.
Every idiotic decision he makes fuels his bad boy of politics image. It's disturbing.
Gonna be interesting to see a debate without him, hopefully the other candidates don't just talk about him all the time anyway. Wonder if there will be a podium left for him like they did at the first Dem debate when they desperately wanted Biden to show up
To be perfectly fair, nothing of value would end up accomplished in the debate anyway. They always devolve to childish bickering, much as what actually happens on Capitol Hill.

it's time kasich rising
so with most of the polling candidate(s) not participating, who's taking center stage then? [editline]26th January 2016[/editline]
it's time kasich rising
i still don't get how ohio politicians are all orange, we don't get much sun this time of the year, but him and boener were both orange. anyway, he's been an OK governor but he wasted a lot of money defending things here in ohio like same-sex marriage bans or the death penalty which both have been expensive failures as far as i see it, while he has done some good like not be an idiot and opt into the ACA i wish he'd embrace some of the more progressive social issues so he could get ahead of bush, but he won't because that would certainly loose in a primary
which is funny that my brother gives me shit when i watched the democratic debate (on sunday no less) and things were nice and civil even with shillary basically making up shit about sanders
Only reason the dem debates are holding civility this cycle is because Sanders doesn't play ball with the bickering. Which, don't get me wrong, is wonderful. We don't have a reasonable alternative in the GOP camp, it's all nutjobs. Not only that, but these debates aren't really worth much anyway. Even if they do stay civil they're only held so candidates can try to goad people into voting for them, not to actually debate issues.
Every idiotic decision he makes fuels his bad boy of politics image. It's disturbing.
I can't honestly pretend I'm surprised really. People are tired of the typical political games bullshit, and Trump has taken the usual course and turned it on its head. To a lot of people, that is fantastic and more important than his insane plans.
I think this is going to end up being another master tactician move from Trump. At this point Fox needs Trump more then he needs Fox and they're going to look stupid when the ratings drop. Also Trump could still wind up being the center of the debate through all the coverage of his absence and his comments following the debate (and during it if he chooses to live tweet). Not to mention other factors that help play to his image, I think Trump will end up winning without having to attend at all.
His latest tweet:
I refuse to call Megyn Kelly a bimbo, because that would not be politically correct. Instead I will only call her a lightweight reporter!
I swear he is 12 years old
They're gonna do nothing but talk about him and debate on his behalf lmao it's hilarious how much he's working them.
trump should dress like the fonz
Then he'll be able to just snap his fingers and America will work again. It's a brilliant idea!
His latest tweet: I swear he is 12 years old
"A bimbo." This is the person people want as the head of state? Chief political representative of the United States to the rest of the world?
Watch this boost his support anyway especially as everyone is just going to be screaming "Vote for me, I'm not trump!" anyway.
not that it should be surprising, he's just a statistician it shouldn't be surprising that Trump know exactly what he's doing, Trump isn't an idiot
Not being Donald Trump is a pretty compelling reason to vote for somebody as far as I'm concerned. I'd write in cartoon characters before casting a vote for Trump.
this still works in his favour bc even with him not showing up, they're going to spend an hour just talking about him so he'll still get as much publicity as him being there
Not being Donald Trump is a pretty compelling reason to vote for somebody as far as I'm concerned. If it comes down to a race between Hillary and Trump, I'll take Hillary every time. That's how much I dislike the fucker.
"A bimbo." This is the person people want as the head of state? Chief political representative of the United States to the rest of the world?
I mean, he's not wrong there. Megyn Kelly is pretty stupid.
"A bimbo." This is the person people want as the head of state? Chief political representative of the United States to the rest of the world?
But he refused to call her that.
this still works in his favour bc even with him not showing up, they're going to spend an hour just talking about him so he'll still get as much publicity as him being there
His part of the debate will be a big interview by journalists on his reaction to all the comments, which he will have zero interruptions against because the other candidates won't be there to defend their arguments against him. It's not that he's skipping the debate, it's that he's getting his own special debate afterward without any of them.
What an entitled little cock weasel.
I should be pretty funny to see the stream of his rally gather more views than the GOP debate.
But he refused to call her that.
"...because that would not be politically correct." Pretty obvious he would call her a bimbo, he just didn't so he could slip in a political correctness jab that his supporters would lap up.
