Britbong traveling to America, looking for suggestions for things to see/do
64 replies, posted
Greetings my colonial brothers. This coming February for 2 weeks I will be staying with a friend at her new apartment in Louisiana and I'm looking for suggestions for things to see and do. We have a car so long distance travel is do-able for example we plan on hopping over to texas to visit NASA and one of these 'six flags' things. So if anyone had any suggestions on anything I'd be eternally thankful.
Depends, what other states will you travel to?
Which America? :v:

I said Louisiana you muppet. Also we are good for some long ass distant travel via car so I guess anything within a 2-3 state range?
Are you going to Over Texas? Ride the Titan and see how many times you can ride its helix before blacking out
Otherwise enjoy the boring rides through Louisiana lowlands. Uppereast Texas has a little more variety in its terrain, and usually its very nice there during the winter. Not one for attractions, so just enjoy your time overseas, I suppose
oh and remember, the stars at night are big and bright......
Go shooting
I HAVE always wanted to fire a gun

i went to a pawn shop in maine and the guy kept trying to sell me a revolver
i was 14
Eat at local restaurants. If there's one thing I would say that we do right in the states, it's food. If you're going to Texas, I can only imagine you can find excellent authentic Mexican cuisine. In big cities, you'll find all kinds of ethnic eateries and shops.
Hey, I live in Lousiana and though I should post. (:
Things that I enjoyed doing:
- French Quater!! (Go to all the different flea market shop and tables, you will find some interesting things to do)
- our food here is nothing like you have anywhere else. We enjoy making our own different types of spices and our own unique ways of making food.
- saints game, I'm not too sure if you enjoy football or not (I personally don't) but being in the "Mercedes Benz" super dome was one experience that I will never forget. He'll if their is go to a hornets game too, sadly they are now called the pelicans.
- if your over 21 then go to Bourbon street and have one hell of a good time with all the different bars xD
Ill edit my post later with more.

Make sure you bring someone 21 with you to the gun range. Sometimes they have requirements to rent a gun (like you have to be a member of their club or whatever), so check all that first. Best bet is to find a friend who has one
Louisiana is nearby to Florida which is lovingly nicknamed the Gunshine State[like Arizona]. You could try to find some shooting ranges around their, and rent some firearms or if you really want to be a cheeky cunt, you can try and find some of the local Oathkeeper branches that teach survival courses.
Also, what part of Louisiana? You might be able to go hunt swamp rats or hogs on an airboat!

If you ever make it out to Atlanta, we have some cool stuff here. World of Coke, a really big aquarium, gang violence etc.
don't die
Last time I drove across the US I stopped in Alabama for this. Enjoy the creole food, as it's pretty hard to find anywhere else and will never be as good.
I'm not too familiar with the happenings down there, but if you guys decide to head up around Chicago hit me up
Whatever you do, keep in mind the U.S. is huge, so traveling 2-3 states from Louisiana is going to be 8-12 hour drives, and obviously gas can get expensive.
If you're at least 21, shoot a machine gun. I went to Michigan this summer and told myself I wasn't leaving the country until I did. I made sure to fulfil that promise to myself.
Don't come to Kansas it's boring and flat here.
Unless you enjoy looking at nothing but open fields and cows.
Make sure you try not to get injured or be in need of health care, it's not free.
You oughta check out California though, nice weather and places to check out.
Civil War battlegrounds are always nice.
Your in america, not much too do but eat unhealthy shit food and fire your guns while drinking a 40 of cheap wisky, the american dream!
have fun!

Wow, sounds like my everyday life.
If you're stopping by St. Louis, the Gateway Arch is a neat place to go. The views from up there are spectacular.
If you CAN make it to California, there's a ton to do here. However, it's gonna be a looooong drive from Louisiana.
Alligator/Crocodile Zoo. Go to a local crawdad restaurant where they dump a few buckets of the things on your table. And my favorite activity in Louisiana? Leaving.
Come to New York! We have the Adirondacks!
NYC is a massive tourist trap. If you do manage to get this far in the country - you're better off shopping in the local mom and pop stores. They have delicious food
Seeing as you'll be in Louisiana, absolutely eat a fuckton of cajun food. A lot of it. And crawfish. It's amazing. Going over to Houston to visit NASA would be pretty easy and worthwhile - not too far a drive from Louisiana, little over 5 hours. If you're gonna be near New Orleans, it'd be a good idea to stop by on the 17th (if you're still there!). That's Mardi Gras 2015 - get incredibly drunk and get flashed by pretty girls for bead necklaces. Six Flags is a good choice, too, easy to fill up a day with rides.
Thing you'll want to look out for - even though it's technically "winter" or early spring, it'll be warm and humid as SHIT. Be sure to pack some lighter clothes - you'd be surprised at how unbelievably suffocating the humidity in Louisiana and Houston can be.
There's not a whole lot of tourist attractions in Louisiana outside of New Orleans - it'd be neat to take a tour of the swamps if you're looking for a more touristy thing, might see a crocodile or something. Louisiana also has a metric fuckton of casinos, so if you're into gambling, it might be worth visiting one. Other than that, stop by the French Quarter, go get really drunk, eat fantastic cajun food, and enjoy.

If I recall correctly, a drive straight across the United States - from the Atlantic to the Pacific, that is - takes about three days or so. In contrast, you could practically see the entire UK in the same time.
If you've been to an amusement park before, I wouldn't bother with Six Flags as you've probably have had the experience of it already.
