So after all the threats, it happened, and it's a pretty big deal.
Hackers who stole sensitive customer information from the cheating site AshleyMadison.com appear to have made good on their threat to post the data online. A data dump, 9.7 gigabytes in size, was posted on Tuesday to the dark web using an Onion address accessible only through the Tor browser. The files appear to include account details and log-ins for some 32 million users of the social networking site, touted as the premier site for married individuals seeking partners for affairs. Seven years worth of credit card and other payment transaction details are also part of the dump, going back to 2007. The data, which amounts to millions of payment transactions, includes names, street address, email address and amount paid. AshleyMadison.com claimed to have nearly 40 million users at the time of the breach about a month ago, all apparently in the market for clandestine hookups.
Holy shit that's a lot of data. This blog post is getting updated as soon as I hit something new and will be completed during this night. Refresh from time to time to have more information. TL;DR : The leaked files seem totally legit 33 million accounts and user personal information have leaked 36 million email addresses have leaked (you might get some spam…) Accounts’ passwords were stored in a secure way and while they won’t be cracked as a whole, someone targeting you might crack your password. Change it. The leak contains the names, street addresses, email addresses, phone number and credit card transactions of nearly 33 million accounts ! (and Per Thorsheim has found valid CC info !) The dump was made on 11/07/15 (July). If you registered your account after this date, you are mostly safe. If you registered before, your personal information are at risk and I advise you to take measures to protect yourself from identity/credit card theft.
The credit card and bank card details all appear to be valid too The divorce rate in the U.S is about to hit an all time high.
"Finally"?
"Finally"?
The hackers had been threatening for a while that they'd leak it. Their reasoning was to do with the fact that the site requires you to pay to remove your account when they never would actually wipe anything.
Jesus Christ. Why would you fucking do this. Well I mean I "know" why, but while charging people to wipe their accounts and stuff is shitty, this is just as shitty.
33 million accounts and 36 million email addresses? Holy shit. I didn't think so many people would use something like this.
this is a shit thing to do even if the site was fuckin awful, jeez
this is a shit thing to do even if the site was fuckin awful, jeez
Feel bad for everybody involved that weren't cheaters.
It's a good time to be a lawyer, because this means massive fuckloads of work in every direction. Divorces, suing the site for failing to keep data safe, going after anyone committing credit card/identity fraud using the leak, eventually suing the hackers if their identities become known... So much strife to keep lawyers busy. I've a feeling alcoholism is also about to go up in a statistically significant way.
well tHis site is going out of business nope. ..
so here's the readme that came with the dump, with their reasoning I guess. We have explained the fraud, deceit, and stupidity of ALM and their members. Now everyone gets to see their data. Find someone you know in here? Keep in mind the site is a scam with thousands of fake female profiles. See ashley madison fake profile lawsuit; 90-95% of actual users are male. Chances are your man signed up on the world’s biggest affair site, but never had one. He just tried to. If that distinction matters. Find yourself in here? It was ALM that failed you and lied to you. Prosecute them and claim damages. Then move on with your life. Learn your lesson and make amends. Embarrassing now, but you’ll get over it. if you're in tech and looking to get some exposure, make a site that lets you look up whether or not a name is in the leaks
Feel bad for everybody involved that weren't cheaters.
This. The site was not 100% about affairs. Consenting couples using the site to find a third were also fucked over. I guess this company pissed off the wrong person (over a very little amount of money, and for probably doing the wrong thing in the first place). Leaking credit card shit too? What pricks.

Any link to the emails?
The hackers had been threatening for a while that they'd leak it. Their reasoning was to do with the fact that the site requires you to pay to remove your account when they never would actually wipe anything.
It didn't seem that long ago when that previous article about the hackers threatening to leak a shit ton of info was posted. Then again, I only assumed that that was one of the first mentions of this whole thing. Am I far off from that?
I consider this a good thing, don't get me wrong it's not good peoples personal information is being leaked but people need to learn to be responsible about what they put on the internet, no place is completely safe.
I fall into the category of I'd rather know than live in blissful ignorance. But what with the site existing in the first place, the extortion to remove an account, the people who use it, the families it's gonna wreak. Leaking credit card details too. Yeah that's pretty fucked. Still I have Little to no sympathy for the assholes who cheated.
the ashley madison site feels like something that should have been in the deep web, not clearnet
if you're in tech and looking to get some exposure, make a site that lets you look up whether or not a name is in the leaks
The guy behind Have I Been Pwned? had announced that if the data became available that he was ready to set up a system that would only let people subscribed to the notification service be notified about breaches marked as "sensitive" (therefore not making them available for searching from the public).
Whoever cheated is reaping what they sow. As far as I'm concerned, they were aiming to wreck whatever relationship they had and anything on those grounds is far worse then whatever was caused by this leak.
This. The site was not 100% about affairs. Consenting couples using the site to find a third were also fucked over.
The people caught on affairs though deserve everything they get. I'm hoping that IA is right about this generating alot of entertainment.
The people caught on affairs though deserve everything they get. I'm hoping that IA is right about this generating alot of entertainment.
Except they leaked shit about people that are in consenting open relationships. "Hacktavists" are not really helping anyone dude. Wanna help people? Do pen-testing for a living.
loading the dumps at the moment. They are huge as fuck. Will probably be able to query it tomorrow. I'm more interested in making maps showing where the % of registered users come from etc. Rather then finding names or login info etc. Presenting this big pile of data in an interesting way.
It just strikes me as something people should leave the fuck alone. Y'know? Like, this leak, and then shows like Cheaters, they just give me a bad taste in my mouth. Especially since according to some of the posts I've seen, some people on AM are single or in open relationships and they get fucked by this too. How about instead of going on a vigilante hunt for cheaters we just let people sort out their own lives
I'm not just surprised that there's so many people doing this, but so many people on just one website.
Whoever cheated is reaping what they sow. As far as I'm concerned, they were aiming to wreck whatever relationship they had and anything on those grounds is far worse then whatever was caused by this leak.
these peoples Credit Card or Debit Card information were leaked, along with personal info. Yes they cheated on people they were in relationships with, but there's also people in open relationships that do this type of stuff. their information shouldn't be leaked like this.
The only issue I have with the leak is the credit card leak. that's pretty shitty. Letting those who cheated be found out should be the punishment here.
Cheating on your spouse is immoral, but not illegal. Doxing millions of people and specifically their credit card info is. Let's try and keep priorities straight, eh?
I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for people who willingly cheat on their partners or the people who've been exposed by this all this. Now I will admit I'm completely biased about this due to past life experiences, but I'm going to be blunt and say that all the people who used this website to cheat completely deserve the shitstorm that's coming. I don't care how bad it is for them, they fucked themselves the second they signed up. I do however feel bad for those few people who maybe had open relationships in which this was completely okay between all parties, yet fell victim to the leak. Was a poor choice of dating website on their part, but the reality is these certain people didn't truly do anything wrong.
