Man these were really interesting and insightful to watch but it made me sad on the second video. What a bunch of fuck asses. I know its not entirely their fault but I feel bad for that Spanky kid. He said he was afraid to do anything about his Dad because he was afraid he would murder him.
This is beyond heatbreaking to watch
It's sad to see the potential in some of these kids being wasted simply because they're surrounded by poverty and bad influences.
I understand the teacher's attitude but about 1/2 of them were rather mean, and I think that only makes the kids feel worse.

Kind of bullshit that they tried to diagnose Spanky as a psychopath. Almost every kid I know has played with fire and gotten in trouble at some point. Sometimes curiosity just bites people in the ass. Just because he was watching the fire and not helping his sisters doesn't make it any different. He's so young he was probably scared out of his damn mind and didn't know what was going on.
Can't wait for the next episode.
I feel so bad for spanky.

The coach is a good man.
Its like the real life version of The Wire

I can understand the sentiment. One time when I was visiting my cousin a friend of ours knocked on his gate and that pissed the dog off because he was kept in a back portion of the yard. The german shepherd basically busted through the fence, as I turn around after opening the door (because hearing him jump against the fence was normal) I see him charging towards me full speed. I freeze up and literally can't do anything but slap myself against the wall and he charges past me and takes a chunk out of our friend who only wanted to return a soccer ball. Danger makes people freeze.

something similar happened to me. i was like 7, walking around with a friend. he wasn't wearing shoes for some reason, and stepped on a rusty nail. he was just laying there screaming and telling me to go get his mom but i froze up and didn't know what to do. i felt pretty bad about it.

Poor Spanky? "Two-Face" seems to be a worse situation than Spanky with a speech impediment
You know after feeling so down on myself and almost being suicidal, episode 3 really put a smile on my face. Its nice to know that people can be so thoughful

All the comments about Spanky were like a week before the episode with Two-Face came out.
it really is a shame about what most of these kids are going through, there needs to be more schools like this one where the teachers are genuinely interested in what's best for the kids.
I have so much fucking respect for Coach

Goddamn cliffhangers
It's a shame that this country isn't putting more resources into education research. I wonder if the cameras changed their behavior at all.
I was thinking about getting a degree in education so that I could help kids like these, but I chickened out and got my graduate degree in something else. Seeing this, I can't even imagine how I would handle a situation like this.

I don't watch Vice videos much, but every once in a while they put up something like this that I get really interested in or attached to.
Really hope Cortez's reunion with his father doesn't end up meaning nothing to him in the long run.
