I love the big think series, I watch them every day. Penn Jillette is usually one of my favorites and I just watched this.
No youtube link yet. He starts absolutely flipping out around 6:30.

It's labeled as August 30th but I feel like i've seen this like 6 months ago.
Perfect.
"go into McDonald’s, pull out an AK15, kill 10 people, walk back out"

I like Penn Jillette.
I agree partially with him. But I think the religious people who say they believe in all that bullshit, believe all that bullshit happened in a different reality, and that it can't happen in this reality. Like how the talking snake has "happened" 6000 or so years ago, but can't happen now.

Yea, I saw it a while back too.

its disgusting how these people come up with baseless excuses to obstruct the possibility that they are wrong

excuse me but what?
isn't freaking (and doing magic) out pretty much penn jillette's job?
excuse me but what?
in the video penn brought up a hypothetical situation and his words were roughly "snake walks up to me, snake opens his mouth, tells me, go into McDonald's, pull out an AK15, kill 10 people, walk back out."
He mentioned himself always going back to Genesis. Well that's a perfect point to jump off with the Bible and get a feel for how many stories play out. After Adam and Eve ate of the fruit from the tree of life humanity was forever changed. There are many stories where certain events change how the future plays out.
And this isn't just the Bible. Look at Greek mythology and there's tons of stories about how past conflicts between gods and humans had major changes. I don't think Christians are claiming they can talk to snakes and burning bushes.

You know, there are probably people out there somewhere who would take offence to this.
The point he's putting across is hilarious, but he sort of comes across as tactless.
Isn't this just Penn being Penn?

He believes that it is truly more respectful and honest to be direct about a belief system. I would actually tend to agree with him to great extent.

Why should one even care about people "taking offense" at something? That whole concept is cringeworthy. You either agree or disagree with something. Saying "I'm offended" is basically like a kid throwing a tantrum.
I wish Bullshit never died.

I dislike Atheism because of the fact that the majority of the people complain about how "oppressed" they feel and how Religious people love to push their religion onto others, which has some truth to it, but what they fail to realise is that by outright saying that there is no God and being so vocal about, they are emulating exactly what they hate. Regardless, Penn raises some good points and I can understand where he is coming from.
Agnosticism is much better in my opinion because it allows those that do not believe in a God, or find flaws in the idea of a God, to do so but without feeling the need to tell Religious people that they are completely wrong in believing in one.

There are assholes and annoying people on both sides.
There are reasonable people on both sides.
People are people.

I agree, that's why I said majority rather than all. Of course that is just in my experience with them, for all I know the majority of them could be accepting of different religions and just choose to not believe in a god.

Problem is an experience only comes when an atheist decides to say hes an atheist, which probably means he is one of those atheists.

You also have to remember the fact that you only hear and pay attention to the vocal ones, because well, they are the vocal ones. You don't know how many quiet ones there are out there.

Penn Jillette has a whole series on bigthink.

Being an Atheist is characterised by a lack of belief in religion, there's nothing there to make people feel obligated to push this belief (or lack thereof) onto others. People do it because they feel extremely passionate about the subject, which unfortunately is undermined by all the assholes doing it because they dislike people with different beliefs to them. Your belief system doesn't make you into an asshole, you have to be one already. It's just harder to think of incensed polemicism on the substitute of agnosticism since it's a lot more vague; you're open to the idea of theistic belief, as you are to atheistic belief, but are holding out for something better. It's inherently hard to argue for something like that.
Those who are passionate about Atheism don't get in your face about it either; christopher hitchens, penn jillette, richard dawkins etc all have very impassioned opinions but they're only there if you want to seek them out and listen, they never came up to you and told you to listen. The same is true for theists, while it's not my opinion you don't see the archbishop of canterbury preaching via bible beating to you when you're trying to do something else; he's not an asshole. He's passionate but not an asshole; while it's possible to be both you really have to differentiate the two.
