Can someone identify these shrooms please? Thanks.
BTW: Im in florida
hurr, eat them and find out
I really don't think so. I'm sure http://www.shroomery.org/ has a page for identifying them, but those look pretty big compared to gold caps. Also try http://www.magic-mushrooms.net/index.html and uh, google stuff before making a thread.
They don't look like any psychedelic mushrooms I've seen. The distinguishing features of typical psilocybin mushrooms are virtually absent
They don't look like any psychedelic mushrooms I've seen. The distinguishing features of typical psilocybin mushrooms are virtually absent
Tell me some of the distinguishing fetures?
I'm guessing it's some form of agaricus species. No magic in them, unfortunately
Nope definitely not. DO NOT EAT IT
You would be looking for blue bruising. When I say blue, I mean blue. You know it when you see it. It's not a 'oh it's almost/kinda blue' thing
It really depends on your location, and which magic mushrooms you're looking for specifically.
There are some non-magical mushrooms that bruise blue also by the way. An example would be boletes.
I've seen some gnarly looking ones.
Tell me some of the distinguishing fetures?
Typically you should look for blue bruising along the stem and bell-shaped caps, but even those characteristics aren't present in all psilocybin mushrooms. On top of which, most species of magic mushroom generally don't get to be as large as the one you have there
No. And if you knew anything about mushrooms you would do a spore print.
I suggest you check out a website

they are very knowledgeable about fun guys.

fungis
ahahaha please tell me that was intentional
I was just gona make the same thread, but since you did, I'll leech off yours.
Are these liberty caps? I found em growing off horse shit in maine. I'm currently taking a spore print, but I heard libertys were easy to identify. I was gona try to grow more from the spore if these are.
They have tan caps, with tan stalks that bruise black, and black spores.

Looks like a liberty cap to me. How many did you get?
Only 2, one for pictures and 1 for a spore print. There were only 8-10 on the pile. I guess I'll research on growing and start right away.
I think you can slice open some shrooms and see the psilocybin react to oxygen and turn blue, as a way to test them. Not too sure if it works though.

idk those brown spots look odd, its supposed to be smooth like this

Yea noone should really ask on DD for identifying magic mushrooms, shroomery.org is the best place to go imo because people have trusted ratings etc
Would dry shrooms react blue? the ones i got i cant really tell since i haven't opened the vacuum bag.

I have some dried ones and the stalks are blue, although I think there are some shrooms that don't bruise blue afaik

Many active mushrooms end up with blue bruises, but many active mushrooms don't. It just depends on what kind of shrooms you get
[editline]3rd August 2011[/editline]
From 'Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World' by Paul Stamets:
"Apparently, the blue pigmentation is a result of a phenomenon paralleling the degradation of unstable psilocin (dephosphorylated psilocin) to presently unknown compounds by enzymes within the mushroom cells. What this means is that when a Psilocybe or Panaeolus bruises bluish, the color reaction is a co-indicator that psilocin is or was present. Naturally, since the bluing phenomenon appears to be a parallel decomposition sequence, the more the mushrooms are bruised the less potent they become. No one, to date, has been able to pinpoint the chemical structure of the bluing compound."
[editline]3rd August 2011[/editline]
He further mentions that not all active mushrooms will blue and certain types of inactive mushrooms can go blue as well, so bluing is a pretty poor indicator of 'magic potential,' so to speak.
So there you have it.
I guess my mushrooms were growing on horse dung, and libertys aren't supposed to grow directly on dung... but can they? Cause these seem like libertys to me
I guess my mushrooms were growing on horse dung, and libertys aren't supposed to grow directly on dung... but can they? Cause these seem like libertys to me
They could be a different psilocybe or panaelous species (more likely panaelous) but if you've only got 8-10 penny-sized caps they won't do much if they're active
There are dozens of psilocybin-containing mushrooms and not even a professional mycologist would make an assumption on the species of the mushroom until they spore printed it.
Point is, if you don't have experience in mycology then you should probably just buy mushies from a dealer, but if you know the basics, join Shroomery and have the QUALIFIED members there ID the shrooms.

They look like Dung-loving Psilocybe too.\

look up your area on shroomery and see if any look like it. and remember shrooms bruise a blueish colour
if you don't feel certain that they're good for you, don't eat them.
they were inactive. Just go on shroomery. It's so easy. I made an account and I got an answer in 3 minutes. They were inactive, but I got advice for other mushrooms that could be in the area.

Bluing is a good indicator, but you should be weary because of your reason. Know what you're looking for before going out to the fields. Don't go out looking for any 'ole mushroom hoping to stumble upon the magical ones.
I know what I'm looking for when I go out, so if mine looks good, and bruises blue, I'm pretty much home free.
Habitat is very important when it comes to mushrooms. The trees, the shit, when its last rained, humidity, temperature all play a factor if the mushroom is psilocybin containing or not.
my eyes hurt looking at those photos :v:
