Francis, in a meeting with the Holy See's doctrinal chief, Archbishop Gerhard Muller, had declared that combating sexual abuse was important "for the Church and its credibility", a statement said. Francis inherited a Church mired in problems and a major scandal over priestly abuse of children. It was believed to be the first time Francis had taken up the issue of sex abuse with a senior member of his staff since his election on March 13.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22043312
Pope Francis has called for "decisive action" in the fight against sex abuse of minors by priests. He instructed Bishop Gerhard Mueller, the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith - the Vatican's doctrinal watchdog - to deal decisively with cases and to protect children. It was the Argentine Pope's first public statement on clerical sex abuse.
Awesome news, although I suspect it will have something to do with sniffing out 'homosexuals', whom they blame as child sex abusers...
The PR campaign continues!! When will this sicko show his true colours
Why don't they just stop hiding evidence from the police forces. That would help with the child abuse problem a lot. Fuck their "we deal with our own criminals" policy, they don't do shit to stop it
I'm hoping he actually gets the priests properly prosecuted and sentenced.
Oh man, this will totally change everything.
Word words words
I hope this is for real. Might make me re-evaluate Francis I as not just a damage-control replacement for the pope emeritus.
So far the new pope is really likeable and made some decent promises, although so far it's only words. I hope that the Vatican will change drastically under his influence.
I don't give a shit what he says. he could be saying this while covering it up. I want to see him actually do something big.
Word words words
Yeah you are right, I totally expected him to at the very least grab a shotgun and start popping pedos left and right. What a loser.
Okay, bring it in boys. Unload the Black-and-White Facepunch Athiests right here. Easy...easy now. Dense load coming through.. And we'll bring in the Anti-Fundamentalists and put it next to the Atheists.
Which circlejerk is the currently accepted one, badpope or goodpope? I can't keep track anymore. But I see no plan to actually do anything about child abuse, no plan to turn over any known perpetrators to the police, no plan to bring in a third-party to investigate, no plan to consult with victims. Other popes said they'll do something about it too. Saying it isn't worth praise. So far this pope has done nothing to show a desire for actual reforms in the Catholic church.

Same case goes for what Francis wants to do during his tenure as Pope. You can't just rapidly jump to a conclusion and say 'oh, he's just blowing smoke.'
This is the only pope I have liked so far, keep up the good work
Which circlejerk is the currently accepted one, badpope or goodpope? I can't keep track anymore.
One circlejerk is as bad as the next.
i'm not sure if i should like this new pope or dislike him i'm on a fence during an earthquake
One circlejerk is as bad as the next.
Well, I'm glad you shared that so we all know your superiority to both.
i'm not sure if i should like this new pope or dislike him i'm on a fence during an earthquake
Trust, but verify.

I was thinking something a bit smaller...

I owned one of them my fingers have never been the same since then
Well, here's to hoping he doesn't secretly have a past record of covering up abuses too. Seriously, I just don't get what is so hard about NOT FUCKING CHILDREN.
The PR campaign continues!! When will this sicko show his true colours
And he is probably in cahoots with that menace Spider-Man too!
One circlejerk is as bad as the next.
I don't know about that, I remember someone had very soft hands during the Curiosity landing
Awesome news, although I suspect it will have something to do with sniffing out 'homosexuals', whom they blame as child sex abusers...
Don't see why this is rated dumb. Knowing the Catholic Church has blamed pedophilia on homosexuality before, I think this more than likely.
Dat choice of picture..
Why are people still expecting Francis to overhaul the church in two months. This is the same institution that didn't apologize to Galileo until 350 years later. They're a slow-moving hulk of a church. Change isn't instantaneous. It's like government - there's lots of things that have to happen, lots of legislation and lots of rules that can't be broken. Just give him some time - he'll be up next to JPII as the best pope by the time he's finished, I can tell.
