Toronto 'guerrilla' archivists to help preserve US climate data
Canadian "guerrilla" archivists will be assisting a rushed effort to preserve US government climate data.
Environmentalists, climate scientists and academics are collaborating to protect what they view as fragile digital federal records and research.
They want the data saved before Donald Trump takes office.
God speed, because that orange monkey will do what he can to stop them.
It is just sad when scientists have to hurry and save their work outside of the country in fear of the new president wanting to delete it all.

Yeah.. I don't get what Trump is really doing toward Climate control, or.. Even toward Science at all.
He should leave that to.. Actual, smart, people that have invested their lives in the field of science.

It's beyond sad. It's insane. We need to be fighting back however we can against his shit. And then there's what the House Freedom Caucus has been discussing:

This shouldn't be happening. Why are we allowing it? The future of our planet is at stake here.
They're doing this because they learned their lesson under Harper - where world-class climate observation data from across the country spanning over a century had its storage defunded, resulting in these priceless records literally being destroyed unless government scientists packed the boxes of files into their own cars and drove off with them before they could be thrown out. Prized datasets referenced by scientists around the world were threatened by this, and the only reason this happened was because Stevie was an oil man and climate science is the biggest inconvenience to fuel industry profits.
It's going to happen again, and the archiving isn't waiting for the crisis this time.
It's not really enough to say I disagree with their politics, at this point Trump and friends are objectively the bad guys.

I do wonder at what point will the planet become so desperate that eco-terrorism is the only solution to confront climate change deniers...

More terror will probably happen, but I doubt much of it will be ecoterrorism alone. What will probably happen is that some of the west's bigger terrorist organizations will integrate ecoterrorism into their existing agendas as they (most likely) expand.

It's not like we didnt see this coming.

I don't know, but we simply haven't got the time to waste anymore talking about it-- not at the rate things are deteriorating. And I don't just mean environmentally, but politically, look at this shit. Peaceful, legal opposition is becoming increasingly difficult when you have governments going after scientists and awareness groups who are simply doing their jobs and are telling the truth. They're going after Tesla and our established climate change policies and programs, etc.
I think if you showed the people the degree of death and destruction that's in store for them, how much biodiversity is going to be lost, basically how fucked up our planet overall is going to be, you could spur them to action. The most important element would be relating it to them and getting them to understand the message: "This affects you. This is going to affect you and your children. This is going to affect the future of our entire planet and species. Something has to be done to stop it, or else things will be horrible. Choose how you will proceed wisely, or else this is what's in store."

I wonder if they could put it up as a torrent. Republicans would never be able to get rid of it then.
this is unbelievable
america what the fuck
it should really send some signals when scientists feel that their work in america is threatened to the point that they do this

That's the ultimate destination, I'm sure. Universities in dozens of nations would mirror the shit out of the datasets simply in the name of preserving scientific knowledge.
The Library of Alexandria burned and academics are all too aware that it can happen again.
